View Full Version : Players player of the year
Scottish_Morton
12 Apr 2007, 08:07 AM
Nominees:
SPL: Artur Boruc, Lee Naylor, Shunsuke Nakamura, Russell Anderson
SPL Young player: Scott Brown, Aiden McGeady, Steven Naismith, Charlie Adam
SFL1: Colin McMenamin, Mark Roberts, Jason Scotland, Goran Stanic
SFL2: Chris Aitken, Paul McGowan, Iain Russell, Peter Weatherson
SFL3: Martin Johnston, David Weatherston, Gary Wood, Neil Jablonski
Weatherson surely has to win the SFL2 award, Anderson deserves the SPL award, he gets nowhere near the amount of recognition he deserves. Young player is probably too close to call, McGeady had a good start to the season, same with Adam, Naismith has come into things as the season has progressed, Brown has been quality in an inconsistant Hibs side.

Nakamura should walk away with the poty award. I dread to think what we'd be like without him. Granted he's rarely at his best when the Setanta cams are on him but he has been man of the match against every team this season, bar Rangers. The opposing teams all got to see him at his best and he is on another level to anyone in the league.

I was at school with him and his Brother. One of those cases when I look at them and some of the people I played football with at School and wonder how they made it!

Nakamura. I don't follow the other leagues so I can't really comment.

No goalkeeper has stood out in the 3rd this season so Grindlay's as fair a pick as anyone to me although Dumbarton fans don't really rate him.
Paul Paton, Jonathon Smart and McGroarty are fair shouts although I'd stick Grant McNicholl or Robbie Horn of Berwick in instead of Davie Graig any day.
You could probably pick 3 of about 10 midfielders if you were doing a 3. All those are decent picks. Gary Greenhil, Neil Jablonski and Ryan Borris are all just as good IMO.
Top 3 strikers should be Johnston, Craig O'Reilly and David Wheatherston.

Players pick the player of the year, managers pick the team of the year. I doubt players can vote for themselves, they can't even vote for team mates at the nomination stage.
