Welcome to professional sports, buddy. That's what the draft is for; to establish rights. If Red Bull was so interested, why did you bother to enter the draft? Now Columbus has wasted time and money to determine if you have value. But as soon as they tell you that you do, you say, "Sorry, not interested." Beggars can't be choosers.

Good point, but at the same time, if Sigi really likes the kid as much as he is saying, than pay the kid more money. If NYRB is offering up more for this kid than what he was drafted at, why the hell is Columbus jumping on this?! I'm sure Sigi is thinking they got a steal on this kid, nabbing in the fourth round of the second-tier draft. But if he can't afford to come to Columbus on $12,900, which I sure hell couldn't do, part-time or not, then up the ante to get him there, especially if you're going to claim he's too valuable to lose.

I think ultimately Crew just doesn't want to give up a potentially good player to a team in its own conference. But this is a bit ridiculous all the way round. I mean, not to be available for contact on draft day...what the hell is this kid thinking.

I don't believe the Red Bulls are offering more money, just that the kid would not have to pay for living expense if he stayed in NJ.

I was thinking the same thing but not just that this kid wasn't available for contact on draft day, but that the Red Bulls didn't talk to him before then. If a club is potentially interested in a player, you'd think they would talk to him before the draft to, at the very least, get his friggin phone number. Way to go Agoos!

I agree with you 100% on your second comment (but that's also why I said this is wrong ALL THE WAY AROUND).

What I meant with my first comment is not in regards to money, but draft pick positioning. Crew picked this guy up in round 4 while Red Bull is offering a third round 2008 pick. Thus, Crew gets a bigger bang for their buck by getting a higher draft pick than what round they got this guy in. I'd take a thrid round pick for a player that's not going to play for me anyway.

Now that is true. If the kid isn't going to show up anyway, what do they have to loose by at least getting something for him rather than nothing.
