Cunningham wore No. 74 last season, then scored a league-high 16 goals and switched to No. 90 this year. Now he has 92 goals, and the Tribune said Cunningham would petition MLS next season for a three-digit number on his jersey, assuming he surpasses 100.

this is awesome.

I think I'm starting to wake up to the fact that Guillermo Barros Schelotto is REALLY coming to MLS NOW! Its looking VERY solid the man will be bearing the Black and yellow, two colors I think make a badass combo for any team, and is still revered and very much wanted and loved at Boca Jrs. This is the stars and planets aligning and letting MLS and most notably the Crew with ONE HELL OF A SIGNING. I can't speak badly of this player, he has been in some of the most heated pitch battles that South America can throw at you and has come out on top as one of the Premier top performers at a consistent level in Argentina. The man has 12, count them ladies and gentlemen, 12 cups of extreme South American importance. 6 league cups, 2 Inter Continental, 2 Sur Americana, 2 recopa-sur americana. He is one of the most decorated players walking the planet that is still playing in great shape and one of the fastest game brains there is. CONGRATULATIONS COLUMBUS CREW, you deserve it, its time to shine.
My hat is also off to Major League Soccer, they are truly making strategic signings this season from specific market areas and these are true brand names that pack a pedigree and still perform day in day out. One of the best ever from England in David Beckham, one of the best from Mexico in Ghuatemoc Blanco, one of the best from Argentina in Guillermo Barros Scheletto, one of the alltime best EVER from the USA in Claudio Reyna... huge footballing nations, soccer elite. Blanco to MLS is an awsome story and will be fun to watch. Claudio Reyna should receive a heros welcome, the man kicked some ass for the US national team in the past, its true. Who can forget the most anticipated name to MLS in its entire history, David Beckham.
Most interesting season this is shaping up to be, watching the product on the field turn first class. The quality of the Colorado Rapids vs DC United game was intense, two high calibre MLS teams, going to war with one another. The difference that day sirs was DC was caught napping and Colorado was on fire, it was their day. The tackles in that game could have been bone crunching due to that weather. I was actually worried I was going to watch some horrible tackle at any moment, but it didn't come, almost on a few occations, but luckily it stayed away. The game was intense to watch and its one of the first games to show pure quality at every position on both teams in some time. MLS is not a weak league so what I think is going to happen, and so does everyone else, is that the USA is going to REAP the benefits of an up and coming class of talent the likes of which we have never seen before. MLS is launching a serious offensive into making our league extremely competitive and not backwater anymore. There are just too many examples of the improvements made, its across the board folks, its really happening. If the crowds do not suddenly multiply by multitudes this season then the sport is cursed in these lands. The owners are slowly, and damn near quietly, piecing the puzzle together that is going to make this league a contender for the very top dollar other countries enjoy. History in the making, gotta love it, and more signings to come I hear... sweet Jesus!

What soccer fans wonder is why Rome has the freedom of speech to trash soccer ad nauseam but Wynalda is slapped down when he hits back.
Now that is truth.

Boy, it really hates me to say this, but I do see a difference. Rome is bashing a sport while Wynalada was using threatening language towards a fellow employee. Now of course common sense tells us Wynalda didn't threaten Rome face to face, but there is a difference here. However, it does seem antithetical for ESPN to allow Rome to continue to bash a sport he obviously has no idea about while the network is in a new era of pushing MLS up a notch.

The scum-sucking filth at AEG want somebody else to pick up the tab for a stadium but want exclusive rights to controling it. Everything old is new again:rolleyes:

Just a couple of comments on the 4 cities listed for those keeping track:
Sugar Land has put up the best offer so far
Houston can easily trump them all with a spot next to Minute Maid Park (the owner of the Astros, Drayton Mclane, has said he'd love it and support it)
Webster is out of the picture according to Oliver Luck
Pearland is in 3rd and working on a plan, but nothing solid yet.
And yes, AEG still wants everything for free, yet maintain all the rights....:( This could get ugly...

A downtown pitch would rock, now if he could only buy the team from Uncle Phil.

But not out of Michael Jackson's picture.:D

All the more reason to get local ownership for your team and send AEG packing. I'm sure Uncle Drayton or Mattress Mac can use a tax write off, they should get on board.

holy crap, did someone actually proofread that article or is it s translation from another language?
I hope they get a deal done, I hate to see teams in any sport moved around like chess pieces.
RE: AEG wanting others to foot the bill and control the stadium: Since when is that "odd" or out of the ordinary? Teams in every sport have deals like that in place. The city still reaps massive rewards as they do get the bonds paid back and get more taxes than they would from homes or other smaller structures.

why do I need to be staring at a Buffalo Sabres crest everytime I come to this site. Do they have an MLS team now in Buffalo?

Or, how about finding a good ol' Buffalo Blizzard logo, a sweet indoor team from the NPSL days.

Well, in all fairness, SL is the only one to submit anything so far....I say that SL is only good for training fields/academy, not a stadium

You may have to sign up to watch it...it's free so no big deal. If people want, I can post the text, though you'll miss the really cool video :)
But not out of Michael Jackson's picture.

Agreed, though I'd rather have Uncle Drayton. Look what he's done in sports: took a 2nd rate (if that) baseball club and made it into one of the premier teams in the league. Mac took tennis and well...they aren't having Clay Court Championship games in Houston anymore after this week >.<
