Ok, this is the big one.
We were unlucky with referreeing decisions in the first leg and ended up losing 2-1. It means a 1-0 win for us or a win by at least 2 goals would do. A 2-1 home win would take the tie into extra time.
They have some good players and it will be difficult to stop them scoring, especially with our increasing injury problems.
But they didn't play that well in the first leg and have struggled in La Liga for the last couple of weeks. We rested Berbatov, Keane and Lennon at the weekend so hopefully they'll be able to play well on Thursday. At 0-0 I expect Sevilla will waste time from the first minute, so an early goal would really open the game up.
[Sorry if mods are supposed to start game threads - I'm not sure of the rules!].

Some stats from various seasons, surely he's been in charge of more games than this..

*sigh*
Stalteri won't play either, out injured for a month.
Lee is out for 3.
King should play :D :D :D
Maybe Tainio at left back! Surely means a midfield of:
Malbranque, Zokora, Jenas, Lennon.
Strikers are fine. Chimbonda will play right back, and Dawson fine in the middle too. It's not that bad really.. no worse than having a right back at left back like last week. Tainio will be ok, he's very versatile. Played everywhere from right back, left back to right, left, centre midfield and just behind the forwards.
Grr, what is this?! only allowed three smiley faces?!

I'd be happy to have Teemu there, he has played fullback before, albeit right back. However I'm worried about a combination of him and Steed on the left, as Sevilla are so strong on their right side.
Hopefully we just go for it tomorrow, try to win by 2 clear goals so the away goals won't matter.

Wait, let me get this straight, so you're saying that every single fullback we had last season and 1 of the 2 we brought in is injured? Greeeeeeaaaaaaaat.
Ugh, worst possible timing. I am quite worried about playing Tainio and Malbranque on the left, because most of Diveilla's attacks come down their right/our left with AlvI'veGotToDiveBecauseI'mInTheSameZipCodeAsTheBox. Tainio is good enough in midfield, but he takes a lot of chances, so I like him less as the last line of defense against the potent Diveilla attack.
The worst thing about it is that both Malbranque and Tainio are the type willing to get stuck in. Neither posesses great speed or quickness, and Malbranque--while definitely putting for the effort and improving--has always been THE creative force for every team he's played on, and isn't as accomplished of a defender as we'd like. But, both Malbranque and Tainio will play into the diving of Sevilla ... and Aves will get the calls.
Maybe we can put Jenas on the left and Malbranque in the center? I wouldn't even mind trotting out Ifil if we had gotten him some playing time, but I'm not willing to risk it for the first time all season in this pressure-packed competition against top quality attacking. Also, Ifil's strength is more attacking than defending. Robbo better be at his best, because I see a lot of free kicks in Diveilla's future. :(

I just hope Jenas looks better cause 1st leg he looked that stuff that came from the backside of my dog when I took her out for a walk.

The ref will be Konrad Plautz of Austria.
He did Arse - Villarreal and he was BAD...bad...bad....bad...but in ways that favored Arse, so maybe he'll favor an English team again.

According to our website.
The people who are out are.
Assou-Ekotto
Gardner
Rocha
Young-Pyo
Huddlestone
Stalteri (doubt)
I know i'm never that confident but with all these injuries we are going to struggle to make a back 4, if all those players are out then someone like Phil Ifil might have to come in. :(
not looking good. :( :(

Good luck tomorrow guys. Break some legs, er, I mean break a leg.
Unfortunately, most of our defence already has broken legs........or similar!
We'll need all the luck we can get. We are down to the bare bones in defence. Both our left backs (Lee Young Pyo and Benoit Assou Ekotto) are out injured. One of our right backs (Paul Stalteri) is likely to be out injured and the other (Pascal Chimbonda) is carrying an injury but will play. We only have one fit centre back (Michael Dawson). He will be partnered by our captain, Ledley King, who is returning from four months out with injury and who isn't really ready yet to be starting games. He hasn't even had a warm up for our reserves so will be very rusty. Of our other centre backs, Anthony Gardner and Dorian Dervitte are injured and Ricardo Rocha is cup tied.
So it really will have to be a case of scoring loads of goals, because I can't see us keeping a clean sheet against an attacking team like Sevilla.

Wait, I am lost now, with no Assou-Ekotto, Stalteri, gardner, young pyo or thudd, who will be playing left and right back, reserves?

I'd forgotten about Huddlestone. Another who could have played at centre back, if he hadn't been injured!
Chimbonda will play (though he's carrying a knock). Not sure yet whether he will play in his usual right back role or whether Jol will switch him to left back. If we have to play young Phil Ifil as the other full back, then Chimbonda will probably play left back, since Ifil is also primarily a right back and Jol will not want to expose him against Sevilla's very dangerous right flank.
I'm really hoping, however, that Paul Stalteri might recover sufficiently from his hip injury for tonight. Jol didn't sound hopeful, though.
