Well, I watched the games today and I have the Direct Kick on Comcast Digital. However, I am finding it hard to nail down a team to support. None of them feel close enough to Atlanta that I can call myself a fan of a particular team. Any suggestions how to get into the MLS?

It isn't hard for me to support Tottenham because I went to school near there for 4-5 years. However, as much as I truly want to support the MLS, I am finding it difficult to become an avid fan. Perhaps this will change as I continue to watch each week.

But, I have my fingers crossed MLS will eventually bring in a team anywhere in the southeast. Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Carolinas....anywhere. Please give me a team I can at least commute to under 6 hours drive for 5-10 home games a year.

I have the same problem none of them have caught my fancy enough to buy a jersey but I'm holding out for an Atlanta team. I'm sure I'll watch more MLS than ever before this year. I might even consider having to get the Direct Kick package with the amount of money I spent tonight at the brewhouse it'll be cheaper to get Direct Kick!

It is too bad that Florida doesn't have a team anymore I could've supported the Fusion as I had a Family connection to the team. Of course neither Tampa or Miami is under 6 hours away for you :p

oh well come to the the Silverbacks home opener on the 21st. (I think it's the 21st)

The DC united team you saw play yesterday was an imposter. The real DCU team will be back next week and if you watch them play at RFK, you instantly be a fan...mark my words..best team in the league:D

I've had this same problem as well....I root for Fulham because of the Yanks but have decided this year to root for Toronto FC since it is the closest team to my hometown (Buffalo).

a lot of folks from georgia and especially north carolina on these boards support dc united. i've been a fan since 2002. there are some very welcoming folks over on the dc boards, the team gets a lot of tv time, and they play attractive soccer. plus, they are the closest geographic team to most southerners.

and the barra drink a lot. :D seriously.

I find myself in the same position as you. I have been a DC fan since 2001, but this year I am finding it hard to get into the team. They traded my favorite player, Eskandarian, and the two Brazilians didn't put up a good enough performance to make up for that hole. I find myself as a general MLS fan, and I think that I am ok with that for now because there are several things to root for in the MLS. I want to see Altidore become a real star and pull NY up from the gutter that they have been in for the last few years. I want to see Landon Donnovan finnish all of those chances that he had yesterday. I want Toronto to be an underdog success this year. I want Freddy Adu to finally live up to the expectations. I like the rebranding for Colorado and I want them to be a top team. I want to see Kenny Cooper become a superstar so that when Ruiz retires in a few more seasons there won't be a downswing in production. Basically I want to see the MLS be as successful as possible, except for Chicago. I have an unnatural hatred for Chicago, and I am glad to see Blanco going there. If there is an import that will crash and burn it will be him. ...I hate Chicago.

Go NY, Chivas, Galaxy, Coloado, Houston, NE, DC, Toronto, RSL, Kansas, Columbus, Dallas!

Die Chicago!

I know exactly what you mean. I was really struggling to care. I did however get to hang out with Kevin Hartman at NSCAA this year, and so will be keeping an eye on the Wizards. As he is a top bloke.

Still the USL starts in a couple of weeks :D

You don't happen to have a THFC sticker on the back of your car and work in Buckhead, do you?

Maybe when you guys get bored you can help me sort through my feelings. I am in the same boat as most of you: without an Atlanta team to root for I feel like I am a floater.

I am not new to soccer, but just this year I started devoting the time in my life it deserves. Which may become unhealthy soon.

I find myself sticking to three teams at the moment without being able to explain "why". Colorado Rapids, FC Dallas, and Chivas. Any idea why I am getting into these teams?

Also, I am excited for the 21st. It will be my first Silverbacks game so if you guys are doing anything fun before the game let me know. Also, is the bar in the stadium yet? If no, what's the policy on drinking?

I don't think the bar is there but they sell beer at the stadium and pretty cheap, too. The guys from section 109 usually have tailgating before the games.

The bar is now scheduled to be open for the 4th of July game, I believe. But they sell beer at the park and the supporter's group ailgates on op of the hill before each home game. Some of them check this forum out so they can help you if you have questions. Look for "Oldie".

Thanks so much for the info. If you see a guy in his early 20s sauntering around like a lost puppy ... give him a shout. It's me.

See you at the game!

here is a post from the USL message board

For the new guys/gals, please feel free to come by and introduce yourself. We will be congregating around 5:30pm in the corner of the parking lot overlooking the field

Some of us will do like last year and bring food/beer to share with each other and for others. There will be the standard tip jar to make donations to Westside 109 Fund if you want. Dan won't be bringing the grill for the first game, so we will stop by and get some pizzas or a bucket of chicken or something.

Post if you plan on bringing something.......

.......I'll have beer for myself and anyone else.

Greetings folks. I'm a former DC United season ticket holder who moved down to Huntsville, AL last year. I'm planning on making the 3 1/2 hour drive to get my live soccer fix tomorrow. Do you guys know if the game will sell out? I'd hate to drive all that way and not find a ticket. Thanks for the help.

I doubt it will sell out and I'm guessing most people buy the tickets the day of the game. The last game that I attended the cheap seats sold out but one half of the stadium was completely empty. You could always purchase your tickets online and pick them up at will call: http://www.atlantasilverbacks.com/ccleague2/index.php?opt=schedule&selectteam=Atlanta%20Silverbacks

The Silverbacks are projecting a sellout for Saturday's match with Montreal. The East Stands are Corporate tickets and though they do not always show up for the games, the tickets are sold. Try to come early.

Good call. Try and get over for the Backs vs. Battery game. Those are always alot of fun.
