CD GUADALAJARA (MEX) - PACHUCA CF (MEX)

First-Leg: 18.04.2007 (Guadalajara)
Second-Leg: 25.04.2007 (Pachuca)

Two former winners meet in the final. Chivas won the inaugural Champions Cup in 1962, while Pachuca lifted the trophy in 2002. Who can add a second CONCACAF championship? Will Chivas win their first international title in 44 years?

Being an all-Mexican final, Mexico is already assured of extending its regional dominance to 23 titles:

Countrywise list of winners

I think Pachuca will win. Chivas has not started off well in either aggregate (lost to W Connection, tied DC United), but they were helped out by having the 2nd leg at home. This time, the second leg is on the road, so if they start bad like they have been, it's all over.

Is that what the red star represent in Chivas Crest and the gold star on Pachuca's crest? I don't think they do, specially for Pachuca, that's probably for La Sudamericana... but I thought I would ask anyway.

Not sure what Pachuca's gold star represents, but Chivas' red star is for their recent Mexican championship. I think they made the 11th star stand out because Chivas are now the Mexican club with the most Mexican league titles.

That star is definitely for the Sudamericana...

I hope Pachuca takes this, I believe they would be a better representation in the Club World Cup.

i think chivas might get rid of some of their good players(europe) so it be best for pachuca to win it but im pretty sure we could take this seasons championship

Do you guys think either team has a chance to break the 3rd place ceiling that Concacaf teams keep getting in the CWC?
I think Pachuca could do it. Don't know about Chivas.

Depends on the draw.

I rate the chances higher against the Libertadores winner than the UEFA Champion in the semis.

Of course sides like Al Ahly have to be beaten first...

It seems Jorge Vergara was exploring the option of playing the Chivas home leg at Estadio Azteca:

The game will now definitely be at Estadio Jalisco...

i think both Chivas Red star and Pachuca's gold star represent the same thing.
They are both the last years champs (one clausura and one apertura).

This tourney is getting boring now. mexican teams always dominate.

I think concacaf should choose a venue to host the final and only play one game just like they do in the NFL. It would make it more interesting.BUt then again if you got unpopular teams playing I don't think it will work.

interesting note. if Pachuca win this will be Chaco Gimenez's second straight CCC title because he won it last year with America. and it will be his 3rd international title in 1 year when you include Sudamericana

I am so jealous of Pachuca's and Guadalajara's recent rise to success. Even though Cruz Azul has been on top of standing more often than not, there is no silverware to show! But i will always root for the team with CRUZ AZUl written on its chest! (in this case it means Pachuca, haha)

2 of the last 3 winners have been Costa Rican teams... (well, 2 out of 4 now since Costa Rica can't win this year either).

You can say that as easily as I can say that a Mexican team has won in 6 of the last 10 editions, or 7 out of 11 (if you count this year in which a Mexican side is going to win).

Actually in those 11 years only in two editions a Mexican team has failed to reach the final, those where the editions of 2000 and 2004.

There isn't much of a case to say that Mexican teams don't dominate this thing, maybe they don't win it every time, but they win it far more often than anyone else, just look at the first post of this thread.

How's that a new thing though? Mexican teams used to dominate far more than they have lately. Quit acting like them doing well in confederation competitions is some new thing. The MFL is the best league in Concacaf and in the past they've dominated, but the trajectory is in the direction of parity not domination.
