High school soccer just started about a month ago for me. I was very excited for this season since I knew my dribbling skills had improved so much that I could play offense. 1st game we play I play defense. I was not surprised. The next practice coach tells me I am playing center mid. I was very happy. 8 games later back to defense, becaus I was passing bad, and some guy playing defense sucked at it. Noooooooooo. Just wanted to complain, anyone else can complain too..

So you're complaining because you got moved from mid to defense because your passing was bad? What did you think would happen? I'd say stop complaining and practice harder on keeping your eyes up to make good passes and hustle your ass off every practice. Spots aren't given on a team, they're earned!

And I bet there is some kid complainig at the dinner table " I was the next defender on the depth chart but they moved this kid who can't even pass from midfield to defense- I am still on the bench and don't get to play"

Work hard, earn it and do what is best for the team. If they need you in the back be the best you can be there

Center mid:confused: They control the game; you can't just know how to pass, you have to be the best one on the team and set the tempo. Just practice, practice, practice...

I can't complain about my team, position, or playing time. BUT, I can complain that I'm playing the best soccer of my life, particularly my vision and my passing, but I'm 41 and my body is not cooperating anymore. Had hip surgery last year and my recovery has been spotty. My knees have become an issue for the first time of my life, and my feet hurt like hell for two days after every game. I'm having to start gaging how many years I have left (one? two?) which sucks.

That's a pretty big promotion to center mid. The goal should have probably put you at left or right mid. I'd talk to your coach and ask him/her what you have to do to change positions. Note that you hate defense and don't enjoy playing when that's all you do. Perhaps, they'll work on the skills to help you or let you split time at another position.

Three comments:
1. Midfielders often play other positions. Having played both places this year is a plus for you.
2. The coach has obviously recognized that you have improved, so keep it up. Another plus for you.
3. The secret of coaching is to figure out who the best 11 players are and then figure out a way to play them all at the same time. Coaches want players that will play where they are needed. Putting the team first is a trait that they like to see.
Keep up the good work.
