I can't understand why there seems to be this growing problem with Gordon Strachan at all, it boggles the mind.
Celtic may have had the benefit of Group Stages to make it through, but who really cares? The point is that you did make it through with a team that pound for pound shouldn't have really had a chance. When you are playing teams that can afford 10's of millions in transfer fee's for one player and you don't have that much in your entire budget and paying 1 million is really pushing the boat out, I think that they did very well.
Celtic was robbed in the Milan game, and it shouldn't even have gone to extra time, anybody with the benefit of a television could have seen that, but that isn't Strachan's Fault.
Strachan is an excellent with his tactics and is spend hours studying opposition teams to find there weakness. People say he is No Martin O'neill but he doesn't have the money that he had and lets face it Aston Villa are coming off the "MO" high at this point and hasn't set the EPL alight like many were expecting.
On paper, many other managers look great. Think back when getting PLG was a Coup for Rangers. I think even many Celtic Supporters were nervous about the ramifications.
The Grass is always greener, but stability is the key, under even less positive conditions than Strachen has brought to Celtic, Ferguson would have been gone at Man U, that would have been a Great Decision now wouldn't it.
Scottish Football need to progress as a whole, the fact that Celtic and Rangers, should be doing more in Europe could come to reality and raise the image of the SPL so that it isn't taken as such a joke. Part time players are not that far off in lower divisions, and I can tell you that is bad for the game.
Using Irish Prem League as an example you get excited when they are in the 1st qualification round and thrill if they make it to the 2nd.
Celtic, Hearts, Rangers, and Hibs should be on parallel and until you let time pass for this to happen, nobody will really care. Like why to have to travel through the BigSoccer broom closest to get to this Forum.

Only the ignoramous of supporters is calling for his head. Let's not forget he has the chance to win us a fourth trophy in six attemps. Now I am not much of a gambler but those are some pretty good odds. He has done some brillant work and was always going to be upward battle to replace MON. Many like myself probbaly feared that we would again be chasing Rangers. Especailly after the horrific begining of last season. Godron has made some good, and bad tatical decisions as all managers do. Really waiting to put Riordan in really has been his only fault this season. When your stirker's are failing to find the back of the net. I want to say less than 25 of the 61 goals scored are from our strikers. To be honest i don't think GS thought Riordan figuered into his plans and he was simply bought to a be a backup squad player only to be used if he was in dire need of a stirker due to injury or to sell off in the summer. The excuse he is a left footed player and that he wants to play him in his desired postion really doesn't hold water as he has played several players out of there poistion and in Nakamura's postion since he arrived at the club. But overall I think he is a better manager than I first gave him credit for and i am postive there are other supporters that feel the same way.

The Derek Riordan situation is very wierd. On one hand GS "describes him as the best natural finisher in Scotland" and on the other hand can't give him anytime on the pitch, even though I think that he has scored 6 goals from 7 appearences (if my memory is correct). A bit like Michael Owen at Real Madrid.
There must be something more going on in the background that we are not made aware of. The proplem that a lot of people have with Gordon is that he doesn't feel it necessary to explain his decisions to the media. He has always been like that and I don't think that many Celtic supporters like that they don't know everything.
Rangers were bidding for Riordan as well and Celtic pipped them at the post. This maybe that Riordan was worth more on the bench at Celtic than playing in the 1st team at Rangers as an inventive goal scorer could have changed the table this season.
Riordan will probably go after this year if he can get out. I can't see him waisting away if he doesn't get more time on the pitch.

I wouldn't doubt that he was purchased to keep him off of Rangers, the same could be said for McDoanld and Hartley as well. Its the nature of the beast at most higher tier clubs nowadays.

Here is an exerpt from The Herald written by Daryll Broadfoot. It details the thoughts of some of the ignoramous fans that you were speaking about earlier. I heard Daryll on today's 23/4/07 SuperScoreboard Live explain the reason for including these thoughts in his article. He responded by says that he was looking to define the term "Celtic Minded" that has been used to explain why Strachan is not loved at Celtic. He also went onto say that this is a minority view but an "unquantifiable minority view". So this could be this one person's opinion or more.
His [Strachan's] decision to replace a tired and frankly uninspired Derek Riordan with Kenny Miller was too much for some fans during last Saturday's 2-1 victory against St Johnstone in the Tennent's Scottish Cup semi-final and has fuelled debate on the extent of the manager's unpopularity among a section of the Celtic following. One observer this week summed up the apathy thus: "He never played for Celtic, he's not Catholic and he's not Irish."
Lucas, [not the person that made the above comment - who was aparantly a fan picked at Random] though, attributes the recent venting of frustration to the ongoing malaise. "I think Gordon Strachan handled himself very well by defusing the situation the way he did," said Lucas. "The bottom line is he won't be accepted by some because he's not one of us'. Do you think Tommy Burns or Martin O'Neill would have been treated like that?
Let's hope that this is truely only a few people's opinion, I would rather think that a lot of older fans don't like Strachan as he was a player at Aberdeen when they travelled to Parkhead and Ibrox and beat the old firm regularly and was not afraid to show his pleasure in doing so.
