A petition actually would be a good idea, but I think the best thing to do would be to give it to Cooper. That way, he can distribute it to Collinsville officials, the league, or anyone else that he feels would be appropriate.
And I'm talking about a real petition with actual signatures, not one of those online petitions. I am totally willing to meet up with all of you to get this thing off the ground. I know I could find a decent amount of signatures from family and friends, and I'm sure all of you could do the same.
At the very least, getting together would be good groundwork for a supporters club should we get the team.
So what is everyone's schedule for this week or next weekend?
By the way, is there anyway we can sticky this thread and/or rename it about a petition drive?
Sounds like a good idea to me, Saturday might be good, so we can watch the MLS kick off, have a few beverages, and discuss what we can do to help St. Louis soccer. Anybody have any ideas about a place, or perhaps a better time?

OB Clark's, on Brentwood by 40 (away from 170 and the galleria). Easily the best soccer bar in the city; I watch every Arsenal match and Champions League match there. If you guys are looking for a place, and want to check out OB's, I'll come along. We filled up the place for USA/Mexico and for the League Cup Final.
There is a group of older guys that watch big matches there; one of them is Bill McDermot, who was a player I believe for St. Louis NASL team, and commentates in MLS matches. So if you guys want to do that, I'll be there (I'll be there for the Champions League matches Wednesday also.)

You guys are going about this wrong.
I PM'd McGinty about it. Haven't heard back.
The petition is a great idea.
But we don't have to meet. I'm sorry, but I don't think that many people will be willing to meet for this when they are scattered throughout the Metro.
Since it was McGinty's idea, I'll let him draft the petition.
I can help if he needs it.
Once the language is correct, post it on here as a PDF.
Everyone downloads the PDF - gets their friends to sign - mails it back to McGinty (or whomever).
Please note, I'm not signing him up for this duty - I'm just using him because it was his idea - doesn't matter who actually collects them.
You will get loads more participation with very little effort.
When I hear from McGinty, I'll post.

i wont live in STL until July, so a form online would be better for me. Plus...I kind of picture each one of you based on your screename. I like the mental image I have of 400lb Gorilla and I don't want that broken. :)

Well, I PM'd Sport Billy, and I think the doing this online is far easier.
Still meeting at some point isn't a bad idea since those of us that want to be part of the potential supporters group will have to meet each other anyway.
And to appease sirfallsalot, 400 LB gorilla will be forced to wear an ape costume to every Big Soccer related function. :)

I agree with this - I just didn't think that it was necessary for the petition especially with the holiday approaching.

Now I'm waiting for IronHead and Angus Podgorney to show up.

Ha....I actually have thought about wearing a gorilla costume to games if we ever get a team, and then i thought wait a second, we play through the summer. Might wanna stick to just a mask. And most of my friends will tell you that I'm not that far off from my name naturally.

I guess I'll have to get my kilt back from the cleaners, and tune up my bagpipes.:D
I found out recently that I do have some Scottish blood (Great Grandmother on my mother's side). Maybe that explains why I've never been very good at tennis.;)
Cheers,
Angus

In this case, Keeperdad30 needs to wear gloves, a skin tight jersey, and a circa 1990 Meola-mullet.

Ha, Ha. I actually have the blue/green/black Adidas Predator GK jersey that Meola wore in the '94 World Cup. :)

Okay, just an update here.
I'm waiting to hear from somebody from StL Soccer United to learn what group(s) they would want to show the petition to once we get all of these signatures. I just want to make sure I can cover all of my bases.
Essentially, I will mention the importance of soccer in St. Louis, and St. Louis' role in American soccer. I'll also mention that while our interests in the game may vary, we all will give our total support to a St. Louis area MLS team by purchasing season tickets or at least attending as many games as possible.

Excellent - you may also mention something regarding the City's proximity to and easy access from St. Louis and possibly its role in being a front runner for future development of the Metro East.
