White Flight isn't endemic to London. It was very common all over American cities in the 60s and 70s, and a prime contributor to the Malling of America.
Yea especially in Buffalo, where race has always been a dividing line. I was curious to what it meant to him in England. I didn't know whether it was a white-power hate thing or a upper middle class snobbing thing.
ps - I am googling my ass off about Margaret Thatcher and neo-conservatives, but I can't get anything unibiased either way. All I seem to get is IRA links or websites with anti-semetic undertones and/or pro-Thatcher vomit inducing Reagan loving propaganda. If anyone knows any good political sites...

Riise gets the 6 shirt (formerly Babbel) and Warnock gets the 28 (formerly Cheyrou). Guess that indicates more playing time for each after a lookover from the boss.

"Michael Owen, the man who with skipper Steven Gerrard, held the key to Benitez’s Liverpool rebuilding plans, is all but out of the exit door and on the way to Real Madrid".

You know, I hate to be an ass and I'm sure you didn't mean any harm, but you could've at least read one of the 35 rumor threads in the forum instead of posting a rumor from the a newspaper most Liverpool supporters won't mention by name in an thread titled "Everything official". Not that much to ask, is it?

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez refused to be drawn on the growing speculation that Reds favourite Michael Owen is on his way out of Anfield following their 2-0 win against AK Graz.
Benitez kept Owen on the substitutes bench throughout the match, the first leg of the third qualifying round which gives entry to the lucrative group phase of the Champions League.
Owen's absence from the field meant that in the event of being transferred to another club playing in the competition, such as Real Madrid - who are being touted to sign him - he would still be eligible to play.

RAFAEL BENITEZ'S FIRST AGM SPEECH IN FULL
"Good evening ladies and gentlemen. Although I've been in Liverpool now for nearly six months, this is my first opportunity to speak to the shareholders. To start with, I want to thank you for the way you have made me, my family and staff feel so welcome since we arrived in England.
"Liverpool is one of the great names of European football and I saw how special Anfield was during my visits here with Valencia. But to actually stand on the touchline as Liverpool manager and hear the fans behind your team is a fantastic experience. I'm proud and privileged to be working here and want to say a few words on why I came to Liverpool and my plans for the future.
"I enjoyed some great successes with Valencia over the past three years and have many happy memories. But Liverpool is a huge club with fantastic support and I was excited by the challenge of bringing back honours to Anfield. I was aware of the reputation of the club, but that was an inspiration, not a burden to me.
Great things have been achieved here in the past and I'm hungry to repeat that in the future. I feel confident we can, because the stable structure of the club allows me to focus on football.
"When I was first able to sit down with David Moores and Rick Parry to discuss the job, I understood these were responsible people undertaking a serious project. We spoke honestly about the size of the challenge we faced and the resources at our disposal. Both the strength of the squad and the financial realities we would be operating under.
"But what has struck me as a Spanish manager operating in England is how everyone at the club respects you and supports you. They always want the best for you and the team. The kind of people I am now working with at Liverpool - from the Chairman and Board of Directors down - give me total confidence in this new project I have undertaken. This club exists to win trophies. It's what the great managers here have done before me and I'm determined to do the same. The target is obviously the Premier League title, but I am not going to make promises about timescales.
"My idea is to prepare the squad to win trophies and play good football. That means instilling a winning mentality. That will be the foundation stone for the future progress we make. It is easy when you win, but we need to be as strong when we lose. We are fighting against clubs with greater resources than us, so we need everyone - the Board, the staff, the players and the supporters to be fighting together.
"Our target is always to win the next game and worry about the League table at the end of the season. We know what we have to do and how we intend to do it and I am confident we will achieve success.
"But success does not just come from spending huge amounts of money. Hard work, proper planning and good coaching are very important. The players need to understand that they must always play as a team for the good of the team.
"We also need to ensure that good young players are being developed and brought through the ranks and I'm pleased so many of them have had the chance to show what they can do in the Carling Cup this season. I was proud of them last night at Spurs. We will continue to work closely with Steve Heighway and his staff at the Academy to make sure the young players have the best possible chance to succeed.
"Always we want to do things in the right way. The performance against Arsenal in the first half was a reference point and the atmosphere in the ground incredible. When you do things right, then everyone connected to the club - those who work here and the supporters everywhere are happy.
"I understand the level of expectation here and fully accept it. I wouldn't want it any other way, which is why I am here for the long term. It will take time and patience will be needed, but I believe we have already made progress this season. However, our work has only just begun.
"Thank you for your support."

Liverpool youngsters Zak Whitbread and David Raven have both been rewarded for their excellent progress this season with new Anfield deals.
The two Academy graduates, who have played starring roles in the Reds' march to the Carling Cup semi-final, have signed new contracts to remain at Anfield until 2007.
Whitbread has played in every match in this season's Carling Cup, impressing at centre half alongside Stephane Henchoz, while Raven turned in a sparkling performance on his competitive debut at right back in the quarter final success at Tottenham.
Profile on Zak Whitbread:
A product of the club's Academy, Whitbread was handed the opportunity of training with the first team squad when he moved down to Melwood in the summer of 2003.
Zak made his first team debut under Rafael Benitez at Millwall with a man of the match performance in the 3-0 Carling Cup win in October 2004.
Zak is a left sided defender who can play at left back or centre half. He was born in the USA and also has a British passport.
Whitbread experienced life with the first team squad when he was on the 2003 Far East tour of Thailand and Hong Kong. He played 18 minutes for the first team in the first game in Thailand but missed the Hong Kong match through injury.
He is a regular member of Hughie McAuley's reserve team and is seen as a bright prospect, and was included in the squad for the 2004 summer tour of the USA and Canada.
Profile on David Raven:
England youth international captain Raven made the move full time to Melwood in January 2004 and is a consistent performer in defence.
He has played a number of games at centre half for the reserves and England but Benitez sees his best position as a right back.
Raven made his first team debut with a man of the match display duringthe Carling Cup quarter-final win at Tottenham in December 2004.
A former trainee with Tranmere Rovers, Raven is a product of Liverpool's Academy and is a talented player.
Raven made his first team debut in the pre-season 2-1 win over Wrexham in August 2004 when he gave an accomplished display at centre half.

It's Bayer Leverkusen. A nice draw, given the alternatives. Arsenal have got Bayern, Chelsea have got Barcelona and United have got AC Milan. The Chelsea game is particularly fascinating, as you've got arguably the two best form teams in the world at the moment and one of them is going out.
