The S.C. preceded by Phoenix is a bit of a tongue twister so a name between the two might sound better.

I would lean toward FC. My reasons are it allows for Football Club or Futbol Club, thus extending a branch to the Hispanic community; it is a traditional prefix or suffix across the globe; and I also appreciate the alliteration with Phoenix FC.
On the whole, I prefer SA or SC (Soccer Association and Soccer Club, respectively) but the alliteration bonus makes me want FC
On the side, I am a big fan of AC, Association Calcio. I love that Italians call the sport "Kick"! It really describes the game well. Maybe we should be the AK (Association of Kickers) Phoenix. On second thought, the Washington Bullets became the Wizards, so AK probably wouldn't get too far... :p

Going with SC in the team name is akin to shootouts instead of ties AND counting the clock down on the scoreboard. All failed attempts in the early years of MLS to garner a larger audience....remember "Its Your Game!"
Non-soccer fans would be as "confused" with SC as they would with FC, so if that is the tact a expansion team in Phoenix takes then they might as well with a purely Americanized version....:eek:
