Hi,

Firstly let me apologise for what will be no doubt one thread you've seen a million times and one that is no doubt in the wrong place :)

I'm jumping the pond next Weds (11th) for 6 nights and 7 days in NYC, first time visitor. Being a huge football/soccer fan I have booked myself a seat for the Red Bulls V Dallas game - very excited!

Just would like a bit more info as to what I can expect really - and a little intro from myself of course :)

I'm 'sittin' (allowed to stand if need be) in Section 112 - quite central but don't know where the 'hardcore' of fans sit? Is this an area with plenty of singing etc?

As I mentioned, a BIG football fan - Leeds United (currently struggling) are my boys, went up to Leeds (live in London 200 miles away) last night to see us win - wasn't expecting it and that last minute goal was sweet as a nut!

So, sorry for droning on - but hi all the same :)

Looks like a bus from Port Authority from reading about...

First of all, welcome to America (be it only for a week). Section 112, is not a standing, singing section. The largest, and oldest supporters club (terrace culture by our standards) is the Empire Supporters club, located in section 101 behind the goal. Look for a group of about 2-300 or so gentlemen and ladies behind one of the nets, and look where all the banners are...that's the ESC. You are certainly welcome to join us for the game, and you are also welcome to join us pregame in Parking Lot 16 a for our tailgate ritual.

We play in a very cavernous stadium unfortunatley. Since it is our home opener, I'd expect somewhere around 20,000 or so there. 20,000 in an 80,000 seater doesn't do much for atmosphere, but us in the ESC stand all game, sing and drink anyway. Our standard of footie over here is slightly better than Championship football (IMO). There's a huge difference in style of play however. Much more quick passing, than dumping it off to strikers here.

Look forward to seeing you out there. My name is Greg, I'll be in the lot, ask around if you have any questions.

Cheers!

Hey Greg,

Firstly thanks for your reply; and the offer of a meet up. Mate of mine is a Bills fan and he's told me about the tailgating etc... would be great to see let alone take part!

I've seen a fair bit of MLS on tv here, used to work nights and we'd get games on at stupid O clock (about 5am, re-runs) that I'd watch. Was genuinely (and pleasantly) surprised to see fast passing, attacking play with hard tackles too! Gets my vote.. .I sort of started looking out for the SJ Earthquakes and just as I started to get to like them they move and change their name lol - only a Leeds fan lol!

Regarding getting to block 101 - I've seen a seating plan, will the stewards just let me wander around or will they be as Nazi like as English? ;)

I'm as excited about the game as I am my trip to NYC lol - travelling alone (I'm 25) so if a day at the football (I find it hard to call it soccer ;)) turns into a day of drinking and singing with strangers, it's all good :)

Dave

Dave

The stewards tend to be Nazi's ONLY IF YOU TRY TO ENTER FROM THE TOP OF THE SECTION. The easiest way to get to 101, is to enter from your section, and traverse throught the rows of empty seats over to section 101. We're not hard to spot at all. Or, if you'd like, you could try to enter the section with all of us as a group. But the easiest way would be to do as I suggested.

Don't stand on the seats. That's the rule they love to enforce, especially on foreigners of the Polish variety (there's a story behind that one). We're an amicable bunch, unless you're a DC United fan. We drink, we smoke, we curse, and we support our club. The tailgating is awesome, and epic. You'll love the food, and I have a feeling you'll love NYC even more.

Hope to see you at the stadium. Remember, we tailgate in lot 16A.

Cheers for the map :)

I'll be getting the bus from Manhattan over, so hopefully it'll drop me somewhere close... though it's hardly a million miles away if they drop me at the other side of the stadium!

Drinking in the seats - stopped that here an age ago - well at football, still allowed at rugby though (don't get me started lol) - will be superb!

I honestly wasn't expectin' as many as 20k fans - Leeds only get about that these days so our stadium is half full :( Still, being in the noisy areas will help!!

See y'all in 16a!

..

I sit in 111, row one, you'll have to pop over and say hi! I'm loud, but can't speak for the people around me at this point...

I'd invite him to 132, but he'll never get past 101.

There is another Leeds fan who comes to home games, we'll have to point him out to you :D.

On our stadium, imagine the MK Dons played at Old Trafford and you'll about get it. The bus from port authority is often a total c0ck-up, so try to get there early if you can. The first bus should leave from gate 206 around 1pm, or not, and then about every half an hour afterwards. It drops you off near gate D, and if you keep walking east (towards the NYC skyline), you'll run into us eventually.

Yeah, so Dave I'm not going to be making it unfortunatley.

All these kind people here will be sure to show you a good time though. Ask for Binks, tell him Greg sent you and he'll get you good and ********ed up (look for the keg:rolleyes: )

You should have gone to Rutgers, it's way more closer to home games.

I'm new to the area too and will be making my first trek out to the Meadowlands on Sunday. Am I correct in understanding that there's no bus from Port Authority to the stadium before 1PM?? And does that bus actually go to the stadium itself, or somewhere else nearby? I'd like to leave as early as possible to allow time for getting lost. Also, I'll need to pick up my ticket at will-call, or perhaps even buy it then. Is there a way to head out around noon from Manhattan by public transport if someone so desires?

Wow

What a day I chose... I was soaked to shit and hid under the canopy of the stands all match freezin' :(

Stood behind the ESC and it was a great experience... especially when those Metro Girls with the raffle tickets came into the area, god damn!

I think I'll come back in the summer to get the full affect!
