I am wondering as a big fan of the mls and soccer in general what I can do to help get a team in the STL. I would do anything to try to get a team here! I wish they would just get it over with and give us a team. I would for sure buy season tickets. Anyone have any ideas on ways to show how much we want a MLS team in St. Louis??????

Your question has been on my mind for awhile now and has always gone unspoken. Thanks for bringing it up.
The only thing I can think of is to keep these threads going. I doubt that we can count on the main stream media to get the word out. I'm not sure potential owners would look to them to verify support anyway.
A petition sent to MLS might help too.

I personally keep everyone I know up to date about the status of St. Louis Soccer. Meaning, I have talked about the women's team and possible stadium sites. Although my friends think I am soccer crazy(although baseball is still my true love) they at least know the US has a league, and STL might get a team. They also have finally figured out that Europe has soccer leagues too, and there is soccer being played aside from the world cup. That took a while.
Otherwise, we could print up some of Keeperdad's jerseys and wear them around town to gain support. :D

One thing is for sure and that is when we do organize any kind of Rally effort it will be partially organized right here on these boards so keep checking in for new information as things unfold. I have a hunch that when stuff goes down it will happen pretty quickly so be ready to drop everything and head to Collinsville. It's my understanding that it's really down to Collinsville and it's mayor at this point. I have a felling that we'll be chanting his name along with Mr. Cooper's in rabid celebration in the not too distant future.
....be ready!

A petition actually would be a good idea, but I think the best thing to do would be to give it to Cooper. That way, he can distribute it to Collinsville officials, the league, or anyone else that he feels would be appropriate.
And I'm talking about a real petition with actual signatures, not one of those online petitions. I am totally willing to meet up with all of you to get this thing off the ground. I know I could find a decent amount of signatures from family and friends, and I'm sure all of you could do the same.
At the very least, getting together would be good groundwork for a supporters club should we get the team.
So what is everyone's schedule for this week or next weekend?
By the way, is there anyway we can sticky this thread and/or rename it about a petition drive?

I'll go ahead and start a new thread to alert everybody.

I could easily get a bunch of signatures from all of my friends and family and even just asking random people.

The Collinsville mayoral and council elections are April 17. I suspect things will be quiet until after that. But I believe Mayor Schaeffer is definitely on board and waiting to see if he'll be re-elected, and who he'll have to deal with on the city council.

I think there are two very important (and relatively easy) things we can do:
1) Spread the word. Talk about it with friends, with family, at work/school, online, etc. This is a soccer town, and we could definitely get a groundswell of support even without an official announcement. Since the paper only sees fit to mention MLS once every few months and local TV even less often than that, it's up to us to do this.
2) Support MLS in general. It's an exciting time to be a fan of MLS and this year should be its most successful ever. At the very least, watch the games on TV (and invite friends). If you're in another city and a game is scheduled, go to it. Maybe buy some gear on MLSnet. The closer MLS moves towards profitability and national prominence, the easier it will be for Jeff Cooper to seal the deal and bring us a team.

Is there anybody that has direct relations to the Cooper group? If they would be up to it could we start taking orders for season tickets. Perhaps a $100 deposit. This will show that there is a true support for a team if it comes. It would mean more if Cooper could show we already have X number of season tickets ready to be sold if we get the team. And incase we don't get the team they can mail the deposits back.

I've noticed that there has been little to no coverage of MLS in the Post Dispatch since the MLS season started. I think we should all write to the Post or Tom Timmerman directly and request that the paper start covering MLS. If we are so close to getting a team, we should start having coverage of the league in the local paper.

Do you have committed enough membership to start a non-profit foundation? If you don't have the cash to go that venture yet, you could at least start getting the framework together.

Not sure if its the best idea, but if any of you guys use facebook, i just created a group 'Saint Louis for the MLS'
Join up, perhaps if the investment group catches the support of such a group, itll help our cause.

Just as an update, Schaeffer did win re-election.

Today in the news on BS is that Garber says the top 3 expansion areas are Sj, Philly and the Pacific NW. Now, alot can (and will) change between now and the fabled Oct. announcement, but this does make me a little nervous.
Do we have any way to contact Cooper or Soccer United about the feasability study they are conducting? I would take a target announcement date of their findings at this point, something to show that we are still moving forward.

Sadly for Philly, normally a public Garber mention is the Judas kiss. Good luck with your team :(
Seriously though, keep up the good work and the energy. Look for ways to show the league you are serious. Eventually it will come down to the money men having enough stomach for the initial cash call (I've heard more than the reported $30 mill franchise fee)

I don't know if I can/should give a target date, but I can confirm that they are very close and confident at this point and significant progress has been made in the past 3 months.
Trying to decipher Garber's expansion declarations can drive you insane, but one thing you notice about San Jose, Philly, and either Seattle or Portland is that they all have suitable temporary venues so they could start before a stadium is built, whereas we essentially have to wait for a stadium before we could begin.
