I posted this on the Cauldron forum, but I wanted to include it here to include everyone, whether they are on the Cauldron board or not.

Okay, the FO is going to fund the creation of a Cauldron banner for the front of the section (the field side) and one for the back (concourse) of the section. I am posting in here to solicite ideas for the banners.

For the back of the section, I was thinking about something that explains what the section is and what we do (kind of a warning-type banner...lol). If anyone has ideas for this banner, please post them.

For the front of the section, I am looking for ideas as well. What I am initially thinking of is something like one of these:
http://www.kccauldron.com/images/CauldronBannerBlue.jpg

http://www.kccauldron.com/images/CauldronBannerWhite.jpg

http://www.kccauldron.com/images/CauldronBannerStripes.jpg

This would be something like a 4' X 12' banner. We can have it professionaly created or make it ourselves. Let me know what you think.

The samples above are just suggested ideas that Stu threw together for me, I am looking for feedback/ideas from everyone.

The section will be clearly marked by banners supporting the team .

I'm usually not negative, but "The Cauldron" looked childish, and the "stand.sing.cheer" looked like a funny url or filename.

But the idea of large banners is great. Keep working on it!

BIG........The CAULDRON.........BIG
LOGO...Stand! Sing! Cheer!...LOGO

Thanks for the feedback, IASocFan!

Everyone, keep in mind the samples I posted above are just that.....samples, to get the discussion rolling. Let's hear/see your ideas!!!

We have some others that I'll post as soon as I can get them uploaded to the Cauldron site.

I don't think we need the stand sing cheer part in front. People will see us on TV and know that we're a supporters section. It doesn't really add anything to the banner.

If anything, we should include the website, but I'd say the effort should just be put into making the Cauldron wordmark or logo look as cool as possible.

The font is okay, but I think it's more suited to the web than a large printed banner. The characters should be wider, and easier to read.

I think we should put some significant time into the design if this is going to be the sections calling card on TV. Maybe even a contest to come up with the best design.

I'm working on several other versions:

We could also completely remove the bottom text.

Do you have a font you would suggest for the Cauldron part? This is just the one we've used on the website and all printed materials thus it seems like it is starting to become our "official" font. I understand if you think it wouldn't print well though and am open to suggestions.

I'll let the Grand Poobah address/discuss the time and contest parts.

Oh and as far as the URL, I would love it but have always been under the impression that it is not allowed. I could, of course, be wrong.

Ok, I like this one (http://www.kccauldron.com/images/CauldronBannerLogoStyle2.jpg)
But maybe we change the bottom wording? Or have no bottom wording... or just put "Kansas City Wizards" on the bottom ? Yeah, ok, not very original.... what about "And s**t on those b@st@rds below!" ... no?

Though IASocFan posting about a big logo on each side would be nice.... but what logo?

Anyway, I think this is great the team wants a professional banner, especially if they are paying for it, for the front of our section. Though the FORZA WIZ banner I do like. If we do get a banner, then it's probably good for about 2 years - never know if the section name changes or if the team name changes - but I think it needs to be blue and white.

I don't see why we couldn't still have both. I think the team would be fine with us having banners all along the TV side if we wanted. Robert am I off base with this one?

There is absolutely no reason there could not be multiple banners. I invisioned the "Forza Wiz" and the new Cauldron banners hanging side-by-side in front of our wider section. Plus we will have the city banner hanging as well (well, Lenexa and Overland Park anyway).

George, per my discussions with a local vendor, the banner would be printed with a solvent ink that has a 5-year outdoor life span.

Jeff, while I like the idea of having a banner contest, I don't know that there is enough time for something like that. The reason this thread was started was to solicite everyones ideas and opinions on the creation of the banner. If we can come up with a couple of quality ideas that most everyone likes, we will have a little non-scientific vote for the winning banner. I would like to get this resolved by the end of this weekend, so we can have the banner in time for the double-header on 4/7.

Also, I have not seen any opinions or ideas for the banner/sign at the top of the section in the concourse. We/the FO want something there that tells/warns people that this section is the Cauldron and what they should expect if they choose to sit/stand there.

Most likely, we will have a couple of people go into the stadium early to hang the various banners. As I understand it, we will be able to send a couple of people in, with a FO escort, to hang the banners then exit the stadium to continue the pre-game at the tailgate.

For this I keep thinking that our best option is something like the "please wait to be seated" signs in a restaurant. Something that you pretty much have to walk around to get into the section. The reason I think this is that anything hanging next to the entrance could easily be ignored.

As for text, something that explains that the seating is GA and we stand all game are the most vital parts. I haven't really worked out any suggestions for this though.

just wanted to get the ball rolling on this idea...mainly because I don't have photoshop and am relying on someone else to pretty this up.

anyways, i think ripping off the wizards logo would make the banners look "professional" and give the look an automatic identity to the team. instead of "the" we could have "section 114" or whatever it is...or "stand sing cheer"

just my two cents.

Quick and dirty. I know some of my angles aren't exact. I didn't even bother to change the other fonts, which you might want to do eventually.

Not bad. But personally if we're gonna do a logo, I'd kinda like to make it unique.

Especially if the logo of the team's going to change (thank God) soon...

i don't like the font of the idea.

looks creepish.

The Cauldron
sing, stand or go home

no but really. i think a more bold, professional font would go better.

I have established a Banner Poll over on the Cauldron Forum site, within the "Gametime" thread. If you have time, swing by and take a look at the three "finalist" and cast your vote.
