The fight is already on between me and my fiancee over music. She wants the same crappy music they play at every reception. I want the Stones and Johnny Cash.

I put my foot down on Celebration. I will not hear this song on my happy day. Her whole family loves it, but they're all stupid. If they play it, I'm not going to be in the room.

Silly guys. Thinking you'll have a choice of anything that happens that day.

So funny. :D

I know. I just like to think I have a say. She almost bought us getting married in UConn's soccer stadium.

Let me throw some more on that list that you should avoid:

Sweet Caroline
Brown Eyed Girl -- once a good song, played to death.
Paradise By The Dashboard Light
New York, New York
Wind Beneath My Wings
December 1963 (Oh What A Night)

Everything you list is bad, but Celebration is the worst. My wife and I agreed on all of this, and resolved it by not hiring a DJ at all and instead making mix cd's of what we wanted to hear. Worked fine.

NGG: Don't marry into a family that has really bad taste in music.

"White Wedding" will be perfect. Yeah, that's the ticket.

I went to a wedding two years ago where the song that was played that got everybody going was Crazy Train.

They were being married by Father Ozzy. So, they played Crazy Train dedicated to their celebratory priest. Crazy times.

Now that Ozzy has really spiked in popularity, they look like geniuses who were ahead of the curve.

They're an enigma, because while they come up with stinkers like Celebration, they're also huge Stones fans. The best thing that ever happened to them is me joining the family.

Sweet Caroline is going to be in, if only because it was deemed "our song" by my future wife. I can live with it.

The best way to get back musical control is by making a mix CD and giving it to the guests. Kris and I are splitting 18 songs. She'll never come up with more than 5, so it's basically my mix CD. And it'll have the Me First and the Gimme Gimmes version of Sweet Caroline.

This was our wedding favor to guests as well, and to my amazement people tell me that they still listen to it 11 months later. Mostly rock & soul, but the last song was Skanatra's "New York New York" which includes the line "Because I'm top of the heap, king of the hill, A number one, I am the shit....!" Mom loved that.

When you go to make them, two suggestions:
1. Don't make one cd from your hard drive and then just copy from cd to cd. For some strange reason the cd-to-cd kept losing volume in later editions, and you're more likely to get errors. There's nothing worse than burning 30 cd's that you have to throw out because they skip over track 13.
2. Finding decent cases was a pain for us, and you could end up spending more on packaging (cases and covers) than the cd's. We used C-shells like this (http://www.sleevetown.com/c-shells.shtml) because they were cheaper, more colorful and less likely to break.

Another song to be avoided at weddings is Creed's "With Arms Wide Open". I mean, unless the theme of your wedding is, let's get this overwith before my the baby is born.

(Disclaimer: All of Creed's songs blow, anyway.)

Johnny Cash is aswome.

What about Merle or even Don Williams.. I love Don Williams' music

As long as there is no tecno, rap, hip hop, pop... I am cool

At least for my wedding.. i want that more conservative approach... spanish romantics, AM Gold type of music, even vintage Country

I use to hold my head,
and be proud of who I am,
but they wont let my storyyy, go untold

I highly recommend "Another One Bites the Dust."

Gets you into the true spirit of the ceremony.
