I did pick up the Backspacer t-shirt at Target.
http://pearljam.com/backspacer/charity

My two vinyls (7" white vinyl single and Backspacer) should be arriving soon. Hopefully i'll get it before I go out of town.

Where did you find the Tshirt? The target I went to didnt have them....Needless to say I was rather pissed.
Where do we rank this CD with the rest of the bunch?
To me its their best work since No Code/Yield.
The last three before this one have been sub par IMHO, especially Riot Act and Binaural.

I loved the last album, Pearl Jam, but I agree with you about Riot Act and Binaural. This album is a tie for me with Pearl Jam, and probably on par with No Code and Yield (but maybe slightly ahead).

Nothing touches the first three albums, and I doubt they ever will. However, that is likely because I will never be high school/college age again!

Ten, Yield and Vs were by far the best. I'd love to hear Yield, played in full in an outdoor venue. It would be absolutely amazing.

No Code was weird.

Vitalogy was ok, but it has a lot of the No Code "experimental stuff" on it.

Binaural was weird, but it was another experimental album regarding the way they recorded it.

Pearl Jam (the Avacado) was good, but not great.

The reviews here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backspacer_%28Pearl_Jam_album%29) seem to be good, other than Pitchfork Media.

The T-shirt is at the Target on Sawmill Road, just south of 161. Target is on the east side of the road. This is the only Target in Columbus that has the shirt.

They also have the 7" vinyl and the CD. Backspacer had a seperate rack facing the aisle back by the electronics service counter. The T-shirts were on the counter.

The shirt does have special washing/care instructions and you may want to run it through the wash before you wear it. (Mine kind of has a funky, but not gross, smell to it.)

(Don't ask about the orange vinyl. You can only get that at twitter.com/pearljam and only if you're very, very lucky.)

Here's the Pitchfork review. I clicked on it, already knowing it would be bad. I expected a snotty review, but instead the reviewer seemed to be fond of the band. He just seems to be in the "more experimental stuff, please!" camp, where we just love the band for what they already are.

Regarding No Code, Binaural, and Riot Act - even with those albums being "weird" or "experimental", there are still some great songs (in my opinion) there:

Sometimes
Hail Hail
Off He Goes
Red Mosquito
Lukin

Light Years
Insignificance
Grievance
Soon Forget

Save You
Love Boat Captain
I Am Mine
Green Disease
1/2 Full

Damn, I forgot about Riot Act! (Shame, it's the only tour that i've been to.)

Agreed, but for every hit off an "experimental" album, there's always:

Tremor Christ
Pry, To
Bugs
Aye Davanita
Hey Foxymophandlemama

I'm Open
Around the Bend

A ton of stuff off Binaural was weird, but I agree those four don't fit that mold.

Has anyone heard about that movie from 1995-1998 or so? I don't want to say I just found it, but i'd expect any hunt to be a lot harder.

That's the good stuff on Vitalogy! :) The shit is Betterman and Nothingman. Bleh. I agree that I'm Open sucks, but I could listen to a whole album of Around the Bend style songs. I'm just hoping this album doesn't have a whole lot of Breakerfalls. That is my all-time least favorite Pearl Jam song.

Hey Foxymophandlemama

So silly that they included this song instead of Hard To Imagine.

It's like the Fire drafting Calen Carr or Jeff Curtin instead of Jozy Altidore.

Got through song 8 on the drive to work this morning. So far, Backspacer = Riot Act 2. I might have to go back and listen to Riot Act, since its been a few years, but the flat, uninspired punk songs followed by the forgettable downtempo songs sounds about right.

Did you like any songs on Ten?

All of them, I think. And those weren't the great songs on Vitalogy, just some of the good ones (I guess I agree that Bugs kind of sucks). Last Exit, StBC, Not for You, Corduroy, and Immortality are the stars of that album.

Lets just put it to rest right now. Ten is their best work. Bottomline.
Now as for the rest of the CDs they go in this order from best to worst.

Vs
Yield
No Code
Vitalogy
Backspacer
Avacado
Riot Act
Binaural

The last two can be switched around depending how much you like/dislike former President Bush.

Apart from dropping No Code down 2 more notches, I pretty much agree with this.

No Code to me is one of their least appreciated albumns. To me I love songs like Around the Bend, the honesty in Im Open, The story telling of Off Again. The wailing guitar of Red Mosquito, the Hard Hitting rifts of Habit and Hail Hail. The wonderful lyrics of Who You Are. Need I go on...
I guess when it comes to it the only songs I dont enjoy are Smile and ManKind...although Stone does sing on Mankind which is fun.

I agree with you on all counts (literally all), but it still sits in 5/6th place for me. And you forgot to mention Sometimes! I love that song, and I love how Hail Hail blasts it's way into your ears immediately afterwards.

EDIT: Actually, I never listen to I'm Open and I got it mixed up with Present Tense. In My Tree is sweet too.

Vs
Vitalogy
Ten
No Code
Yield
Avocado
Binaural
Riot Act
Backspacer

Vs. is their best. In terms of albums I go back to for a listen now and then, Ten would drop behind No Code as well.

WOW, what an interesting list. I mean Ive never seen anyone not put Ten in the top spot. Second, Ive never seen anyone put Vitalogy that high. THe middle looks similar to mine until you put Backspacer last...The new albumn is soooo much better than Riot act and Binaural.
Also, to thos people out there who say Binaural was cool because of how they recorded it....I cant hear a friggin difference when I listen to it.

I gotta admit, it sounds pretty sweet when I listen to it in on my BOSE headphones.

Ha, I actually opened up iTunes and gave a listen to No Code and Binaural last night and I would move NC up to #2 and Binaural above Avocado. Binaural definitely isn't a complete album, but I had forgotten how much Insignificance rocks. I looked at the track list of Riot Act and couldn't remember liking anything much on it except You Are. I feel like Backspacer sounds very similar to that one less some of the anti-Bush songs. Amongst the Waves is the only song so far that I kind of like.

I definitely don't come at this objectively. I came to Ten late after it had been out a while. I bought Vs. right when it came out with the sweet jewel box and all. It meant more to me. Part of it is the over-exposure of Ten that leaves me a little cold listening to it (same reason I hate Betterman).
