Switzerland is in Florida for two games this weekend. Since the Nats are in the same damn state playing Ecuador, what USSF genius could not set up a game with them??

Oh yeah,we had to play Guatemala again......

Maybe Switzerland doesn't want to play us? Geez, don't jump to conclusions.

Oh, I like Switzerland and their team....well, Switzerland wants to prepare for European Cup 2008....that will be held in both Austria and Switzerland.....swiss soccer is improving a lot and they have few good players....I also would love to see friendly USA-Switzerland..but I guess they concentrate on european teams now since they want to be successful in European Cup in their own country...

but USA would be good test for them......

why not Switzerland?

or maybe you can have "classic" friendly game against Germany?....I would love that..

or you can have friendly against Czech (as revange for world cup 2006)...

P.S Germany is playing against Czech on March 24....european qualification games.....it is the most hard match in our group...so we have big event tomorrow.....the game will be in Prague.......maybe someone of you is interested in this match...

Latin teams + warm weather venues = ticket sales

Does Guatemala draw that many fans to friendlies? Certainly more than Switzerland would. Especially in Texas.

The Fed is good at making money. Very little research is required to discover that US Soccer is rolling in cash.

But more is never enough. So instead of a quality side like Switzerland, who are prepping to host a major tournament next year and will be taking their games very seriously, we get Guatemala at Frisco...AGAIN!

Kind of makes you wonder about the "sporting aspects" that Klinsman couldn't come to terms with. Perhaps scheduling was the issue. Maybe he wanted to spend his time in March playing Chile in Santiago, or perhaps a London double header against Ghana and Brazil.

There is no reason we can't be playing these type of games now.

I wish somebody in the press would ask these types of questions to Sunil and Co.

I might have to head up to Colombia and interview him myself.

The Fed is rolling in cash? Quick, someone tell Sunil that!

Switzerland would be a great test, and I'd love to play them in Zurich at some point next year, but style-wise, Ecuador and Guatemala are more similar to what we will be facing this summer.

We should play Switzerland in Hershey, PA.

Chocolat Cup, anyone?

But, yeah, as weak sauce as another game against the Guats is, we are going to play a lot more Guatesque teams than we will teams like the swiss mis-ters.

After the CA is over though, I would really dig it if we played some friendlies in Europe next Sept-Nov. We can play Euro teams gearing up for Euro2008, so those games will mean more to those teams and those players at the start of the 07-08 season, because they'll be trying to sort out a squad and guys will be playing for starting jobs. Also, if we do a Euro camp with Euro players, we can let the MLS guys finish the season with their teams and minimize travel, allowing us to hopefully get a full group of players released from their clubs.

We've previously played the Italians in (iirc) Palermo, the Germans in Rostock and the Poles in Leverkusen. I'd really like to see us play a team like Croatia on the road, maybe someone like Sweden. And, we always play Denmark at home, it would even be worth it to play against them in C'hagen. If we're lucky enough to get France...I might even go. C'mon, Sunil, get those phone lines burning.

I figured I'd stop in Colombia first to arrange a friendly, but apparently they are in California...playing Switzerland! Guess I'm going in the wrong direction regardless.

Fortunately my 'ivy league of the midwest' pedigree might allow me to obtain an audience with his shortness.

Hold the presses: We are actually playing in California.

OK. It'll be in the 90s here this weekend in Augusta the week before The Masters and you're telling me it's cooler in Florida?

Gold Cup + Copa America back to back = Lots of inexperienced talent
that will be needed to play the central and south american teams.

So...schedule Ecuador and Guatamala. For the exact same reasons that
scheduling Morocco and Latvia were wrong in preparing for the WC. (What were Nigeria, Cameroon, and Slovenia doing again?)

How the %^&$ would anyone know? The Guatemala game is not going to draw well as there are a lot of Mexicans and Salvadorans here but not so much Guatemalans and we too would like a different opponent. Since no Euro team ever plays here it is pretty lame for the Fed to assume they wouldn't draw well.

FCD/Burn has also never played a Euro team here (we will play our first ever from S. America next Saturday - Atletico Paranaense). I honestly think we won't see any until Jerry World is built and the big boys (Manu, Real, Bayern, etc) bypass HSG and US Soccer and play each other here. Then all of a sudden they will be trying to lineup a few European Club and country teams.

Punchline?

We are playing two friendlies this week, so I doubt that we are playing them in three different states. Doh.
