I just read that on a Dutch news site as well.
I'll just laugh at the next Englishman who accuses Dutch football of in-fighting then.

The article says- The information, he said, had come from Eriksson
It sounds to me as though Eriksson is making excuses for his own mistakes, by portraying David Beckham's poor performances at the World Cup as the result of other player's jealousy rather than his own inflexiblity when it comes to dropping out of form players.

I'm jealous of David Beckhams flowing golden locks, and his wife.

Basically saying players didn't like beckham's position on the team. And at times he was playing when he shouldn't have been...but he was put in anyways.
While players are equal under mcclaren...good article.

How true.
You think Ricardo knocked England out of the World Cup? No! It was edited out in the live feed, but it was in fact Beckham saving Lampard, Gerrard and Carragher's penalties. He was Ricardo's stunt double. Victoria was also there, flashing her leathery boobs at Robinson to distract him.

Jeez. . . yeah, it was Lampard's wild jealousy of Beckham that made him launch every ball he touched into orbit.
Beckham's game-winning goal and assists really must have driven them mad.

jealousy is the wrong word.
just because you dont like a situation doesnt mean its down to "jealousy".
the players probably didnt like beckham having so much influence over sven.
This is about being professional and they probably thought sven wasnt professional.

Yeah, so much so that they professionally put in below-par performances. The sheer effrontery of it all, eh?
Mind you, McClaren seems to think Beckham was the disruptive influence and had to be dropped. And everything would fall into place and England would be world-beaters.

Not a horrible decision, given the wealth of talent that we have for the right side of midfield. But it was certainly not based on performance. As anyone who watched the world cup will say, Beckham played a million times better than Lampard, for example.
The agent's theory is not that crazy because I do agree that Sven would play Beckham no matter what. However, rather than being motivated by the desire to rid the England squad of "jealousy", droping Beckham probably had a more to do with his age and the desire for a "new" start.
Too bad that after all this, McClaren only continued Sven's policy of having certain players be automatic starters, irrespective of form.

all this is bs. beckham had an avergae to good world cup, with normal standards and concidering england standerds he had a great world cup right behind hargreaves. he scored and had 2 assists, thats good.
sven did what had to do which was fielding the strongest possible line-up. except for maybe 1 time when he should have subbed becks and didnt i forgot when and whne he picket wallcot, those are the only times he messed up in yhr world cup i think
also how can people criticize beck's play when u had players like lampard, gerrard, rooney, and owen playing on the same pitch in the form that they had. all of them were completly useless except for that one goal gerrard had in overitme which didnt even mean anything.

Yeah.. like it didn't have anything to do with taking a very very young, and extremely inexperienced and untested-at-this-level lad called Theo Walcott... no, no.. it was because the other players were jealous of Beckham.. makes perfect sense.

People keep on blaming Beckham for the WC...like the rest of the team were any good.

Jeez. . . yeah, it was Lampard's wild jealousy of Beckham that made him launch every ball he touched into orbit.
Actually, you can see that every time Lampard went to take a shot, he would first turn and swear at Beckham. Naturally, this threw him off and his shooting suffered.
Owen also wrecked his knee in a desperate cry for attention since everyone was focused on Beckham. And Rooney thought it was Beckham behind him when he stamped on Carvalho's nuts.
