If you’re reading this, welcome to the BigSoccer Equipment and Gear forum. The following is a set of ground rules agreed by the regular contributors on the board which generally stops the board descending into acrimony. BEFORE you post, please familiarize yourself with these guidelines to prevent yourself becoming a figure of ridicule. If you have any questions regarding anything in this list, feel free to PM one of the moderators (myself, jc18star, NSA or spejic), or failing that, one of the regulars who are online.

1. PLEASE don’t create a thread simply for the basis of comparison. This is one of those suicidal things that will result in you losing all credibility on this board. If you want to compare two boots for physical features or sizing, we would recommend your first port of call is the Boot Review Thread. Nine out of ten questions are answered here. If you find that you still don’t have a satisfactory answer, PM one of the members who wrote a review on the boot you are interested in. Do NOT start a new thread under any circumstances, you will be ridiculed by the other members, your thread will be closed and you will be yellow carded.

2. Again, please don’t create new threads regarding care for boots. There is a Boot Care thread, please find this using the search function, or post in one of the brand-specific threads asking your question. Failing this, post in the boot review thread.

3. Please don’t create threads because you want to sell your items. The “Cleats for Sale” forum is now for all selling-related banter so post in there first. If nobody takes an interest don’t take it to heart, and certainly don’t start a new thread because you want your item to get attention. Posting new threads related to selling your items will be seen as SPAMMING and as this is strictly against BigSoccer rules you will be RED CARDED and BANNED.

4. Yet another thread no-no. Don’t create threads because you want to find a particular item. Post in the SwapShop forum and if someone has the item and is willing to sell it, they will PM you. Before you even do that, try eBay. It’s obvious but most of the time you will find what you want.

5. Flaming to be kept to a minimum. Unless someone breaks these rules – in that case, flame away!

6. Please keep an eye on post numbers in threads - each thread is limited to 400 posts. If mods are not around, please feel free to start new threads as necessary, ensuring you post backwards and forwards links between the threads. Mods will close the old threads at the earliest opportunity.

7. Do not start new threads with a link to a particular website selling "NEW AND EXCLUSIVE BOOTS! I WANT ME SOME!" You will be yellow carded. The only selling thread is for the purpose of personal sales, and advertising websites on the forum contravenes the BigSoccer Terms of Service you agreed to when joining up.

8. Out of respect for your fellow members, please don't start a new thread as your first post. Please contribute to a few threads (we recommend a 10 post minimum before starting threads) before going into starting a new thread, just so you can get a "feel" for the forum - this also prevents you doing "newbie" things and proves you have read these rules!

That’s it for now. Remember that these guidelines are here to make this forum a better place for newbies and regulars alike. If you have any questions PM a moderator and remember – if in doubt, don’t post a new thread, put it in the off topic thread.

Ok guys I am back from Jamaica and ready to get to work. It looks like Bigg is on tack with some of the new changes here and I really like them. As you all know I am a regular here and always open to suggestion, change and input. PM me with questions or concerns.

Cheers,

JC

One suggestion, or perhaps more of a wish I have, is to limit responses in the threads to something of substance. I understand that it's a public board/forum where people (unfortunately) feel free to write on nearly anything, often not having anything to do with soccer, but it's a huge pet peeve of mine (and I'm sure others') when people write nonsense just to write something. My favorite are responses that grammatically make no sense from people who live in UK or US, or are so full of misspellings that you wonder why this person would even write it. I'd personally establish a rule that would attempt to keep responses on point in the threads; if someone wants to engage in personal blabbing, they can always PM the target, and spare the rest of us their nonsense, unless it's a thread designated for nonsense like the OFF-Topic thread. The forum would be much "cleaner" and efficient. I could cite more than a few examples, but I would not want to offend anybody. You know who you are. My wish will most likely not come true for obvious reason, but you asked for suggestions, so...

there are four mods to this forum

-jc (regular)
-nsa (occassional)
-bigg (regular)
-spejic (rarely)

i think it would be nice to see actual participation from the other two otherwise we should request additional mods. it seems that most of the moderation is from jc and bigg. While I may only be seen to post in this forum occasionally, I look in fairly often. I've always tried to be a hands-off moderator, stepping in only when really necessary. For the most part, forum members here sort things out pretty well and know how to use "report post" when shit hits the fan if we don't see it first.

That said, you do need another moderator because I am no longer a moderator on bigsoccer. It's not my choice. I pissed off dark knight when I sanctioned Andy "Untouchable" Mead for misbehaving in another forum.

Thanks for letting me hang out here (even though my boots look like crap). :)

i like the idea of having sub-forums for the different categories. then, it's a lot more direct to find what you're looking for. it'd make things look a little more cleaned up than they are right now.

I think they need to find a way to delete the threads instead of just locking them, because then they're still there. and there are pages of pages of crap that it takes forever to search through to find what you're actually looking for.

if only there was a way to make the accounts so that new members had to read the rules before they accessed the boards.

wondering where the For sale thread went, it was stickyed but now is not there....put it back on sticky if you took it down.

cleats for sale is the swapshop.

I spend quite a bit of time on the equipment thread right now since I just started playing again after about 7 years. I do like the idea of another layer of sorting the posts. Personally I would prefer the first layer of sorting to be by type then maybe by brand.

Example:

Main category: Boots
Sub categories: Indoor, SG, HG/FG/MG, Training

And then maybe divide by brand, but I think it makes better comparisons to have all brands in each category.

And then have other main categories like apparel, storage/hauling (bags, etc), equipment maintenace, protective gear. Make the sight more like the way shops are laid out in other words. but also include sections for pictures, sales and discussions of which pros are wearing what gear just for fun.

Whoops, my bad, "site" not "sight".

Make the searching more specific, whenever i type something in quotes in the search it doesn't leave it as the whole phrase. Then I'm forced to look through tons of posts... I don't know if better searching is an option but its still an idea.

That is weaksauce. Isn't Andy Mead that photographer for some online magazine?

Are you still going to be around in NSR? ;) haha

...Example:

Main category: Boots
Sub categories: Indoor, SG, HG/FG/MG, Training...

This get's way to tedious. Imagine surfing through each subforum, it would take too much time. It's not real practical IMO

Personally we need a whole section for the FS: items, as is on many car websites where i sell goods at.

They give you a seperate section for FS and WTB threads.

Maybe we could have a stickied "equipment care" thread?

I was just searching, and found a few shirt care threads.. maybe we could merge them into one, with any boot care threads?

I just think that some members need to remember that their are mods on the board to tell people where to look for posts etc. I know its annoying when someone starts a new thread when there is already a thread open for it.

Some members are stepping into mods shoes and being a little bit rude when it comes to tell people how to search. So can we at least try and keep it polite. There is a space for new mod on the board so if you want to be one apply.

Personally i think some threads are going to be brought up again and we cant help that. I think the main problem was that people were starting 'what boots should i get thread' if people have searched and decided that they want to start a new thread thats fine.

So can we just be polite please? especially to the newer members. Because at this rate they aren't gonna wanna come back.

yeah. I understand why it's done- it's a lot more convenient to just ask the question in a new thread than take the time to actually look for the answers and opinions that are already in other threads.

I don't even think more mods would solve those problems. I mean, bigg and JC are on here enough anyway to be on top of everything.

I think 2 mods are enough too. But NSA is no longer a mod and said that he needed to be replaced.

I have no objection with board members saying look here or there. Just some are getting a bit rude thats all.

I'm probably one of the people you're talking about.

I just get sick of the same posts over and over and over.

Make me a mod, and I'll clean this place up in a jiffy. (Not that it's really that messy right now.)

So is there any criticism on my idea there should be another mini section open to FS posts? Because im sure there would be alot of good things for sale there if we were to open a new section for it, as everyone selling a couple of things would have their own thread open. I'd be up for moderating that section as is, i am a moderator at car website which is similar to the format of BS.

They should make a whole new Buy/Sell forum for all of BigSoccer.
