BERLIN (AFP) - German team manager Oliver Bierhoff confirmed on Thursday that Germany will play England in the first full international at the new Wembley Stadium on August 22.
The meeting between the two classic international rivals mirrors the last international played at Wembley when Germany beat England 1-0 on October 7 2000 and 90,000 fans are expected for the grand unveiling in August.
"We are glad to be involved in the first international at the new Wembley," said Bierhoff, with England set to play their first Under-21 international at the new stadium against Italy this weekend.

yeah i have heard that germany are the first team to play at wembley against eng;land but in an english newspaper recently it said that the head of the fa said that brazil would be the first team to play there.
personally i would want germany england as the first match. i get the feeling that the brazillians wouldn't try as hard as a german team would.

i think they would as i feel that the players will be so motivated that even though we have the worst manager around we wil still win.

I agree if England win it it'll be because of the motivation only Brazil is much beter bcuz they know how to play and they hv a good maneger inspite that England may hv beter players

bastard :)
anyways, enjoy the unique priviledge of being not only the team to win the last match at old wembley and the team to also win the first match there. it is also significant in being a period of success for england between when headed by a foreign manager. i hope some at the fa learn from this, but it is unlikely.

Other than being too conservative when it mattered (Peckerman had the same problem) Sven at least got England qualifyed for the three tournaments he was in charge... and eventually got knocked out of two on pk's and the third by the winners......McClaren is a "number 2" and always will be.....The press did Sven in....just like they did Hoddle in....and just like they'll do in every England manager from now to kingdom fcuking come.

Nothing's been confirmed.
The first England game at Wembley is likely to be at the end of the season.

I think our 1st Match at the New Wembley should be against Scotland. Not only is it the oldest match in International Football, we are the biggest of rivals & both would give their all to beat their neighbours. Plus it was the 1st International match at Wembley in 1924. A 1-1 draw.

A friendly against either of these teams would just be depressing, and probably useless, because england would loose to brazil or germany, and niether result would end in mcsven being sacked
