What exactly were the songs were they singing? Anti-catholic? Anti-Spanish?

John Macmillan, secretary of the Rangers Supporters' Clubs, has called for fans taking part in sectarian chanting to be jailed.

Uefa has expressed concern at the behaviour of a minority of Rangers supporters during the defeat to Osasuna last week, when offensive songs were clearly audible.

They were caught on video singing 'fcuk yer pope and the IRA'. Far from the worst stuff they sing, and they sing this stuff every week.

Umm no, no they don't. That's a complete lie.

I go to Ibrox every week, & have not heard anything in ages. It's ONLY the away support. If it happens at Ibrox other supporters tell the people to shut up.

A guy was shouting ******** the pope over, & over then a guy a few seats away from him told him to shut up, or take a walk with him outside. They went outside, & I have not seen the guy who was shouting it again at Ibrox. I don't agree we should be fighting amongst ourselves, but this stuff needs to end.

That goes for the HOLE of Scotland, not just Rangers.

I wonder if all the fuss will get struck up when Scotland supporters are chanting racist remarks about England. No they won't because Rangers are a scape goat. Also, the anti-homosexual chanting by Hearts, & other teams in Scotland never gets mentioned. If it was Rangers there would be a outcry.

Why is it not acceptable to shout anti-English remarks when Scotland are playing England? Why is it any different from remarks against people from Aberdeen or Cowdenbeath by supporters from Glasgow or Methil.

Folk need to seriusly grow up about the "anti-gay" stuff. This is not targeted abuse of homosexuals, the use of the word gay to mean "rubbish" is frequently used in the media and by people and is even getting recognised in the dictionary I think. (I'm sure I read that somewhere).

Scotland fans singing about England isn't the same thing. The worst you'll get is 'stand up if you hate england', and that's about football rivalry, nothing more. It's certainly not racist.

And Celtic away fans are just as bad as Rangers away fans. No-one here is singling out Rangers. Airdrie fans are just as bad too.

Even if you don't hear sectarian singing at Ibrox every game (they don't sing most games anyway), you'll hear it every week in streets all around Scotland.

I must admit Rangers fans have been much better at home, especially in europe, this year.

I tend to just ignore the OF as much as possible, they're no worth the hassle.

If lets say you chant "dirty English bastard!", or "stand up if you HATE England" you are then committing Racial prejudice, are you not? Racial prejudice is not just based on colour. It can be based on anything discriminative towards a group, or nationality.

If you want we can call it a small case of xenophobia from 99% of a country.

Come again? I don't know what your getting at. Xenophobia means you dislike/scared of foreigners, in this case, the English  Unless you think it's funny to say Paisley is another country. Oh my how witty you are

Personally, I can't see much wrong with shouting "dirty English bastard at a football match". It depends on the circumstances.

As I said earlier is "Weegie bastard" racist?

I know you're a Rangers fan but let's keep the anti-Scotishness to a sensible level. Saying that 99% of Scots are xenophobic towards English people is stupid.

I may well live in a glass house, depending on some, ultra PC folk's definitions, but I'm quite sure, to keep going with this metaphor, I haven't thrown any stones.

You really are thick aren't you?

Weegie is OK with me, I don't care. Just puts us up on a pedestal as the best city, because as you probably already know, the best get targeted for abuse because of jealousy. You see it everyday in football, & in life in general.

I support Scotland M8, was making a point.

I find someone to sing 'dirty Paisley bastard' at most weeks...

You mean neds, no? little black looking junkies. Who goes out drinks a bottle of buckfast, then shags his 19 stone 4 foot 9 girlfriend with the yellow teeth, & 15 wanes. They are idiots who can say what they want, because quite frankly, if you take in what they say you are a grand a# toss pot.

They hate everything, find me something they don't hate, apart from Celtic :D J/K don't cry bhoys.

[QUOTE=Gordon EF;11027231]
When is it?

Eh, at most Scotland games no matter who the opposition? the "stand up if you hate England"

What the fu<k are you going on about.

People claimed fenian meant Celtic supporter, & not catholic. Like you just said "gay means rubbish". Which is complete bollox, everyone knows they mean what they say. If they wanted to say rubbish they would chant "oh the hibees are shite" like they do sometimes...

There's a lot to be jealous of - the appaling poverty, high crime rates, knife cluture, being the murder capital of Scotland.

In football, everybody gets targeted, it's all part of the banter and football would be worse with out it. Cowdenbeath gets slagged all the time in football but that's because it's a shit-hole.

Why is Weegie Ok with you but "English" is not?

I support Scotland M8, was making a point.

You were making the point that 99% of Scots are xenophobic towards English people, which is a load of sh1te.

So what?

Fenian means neither.

There is clearly a difference between shouting homophobic abuse at a homosexual and singing "Oh the Hibees are gay".

Don't forget 2nd highest murder rate in Europe, & in parts a lower life expectancy than Iraq.

*Cue sound system "We Are The Champions"*

You are all shit filled jealous pricks who hate us because we have the best football teams.

Well I can't comment about east fife never heard of it :D .

Why is Weegie Ok with you but "English" is not?

To me everything is OK, I have no problem I see it all as banter. Everything has gone too PC. The reason I said it needs to stop is because Rangers are being punished. I just brought up the England stuff to make a point, it's bad for Rangers to discriminate, but not anyone else.

You were making the point that 99% of Scots are xenophobic towards English people, which is a load of sh1te.

I exaggerated, it's closer to 50% going by what the poll on ITV said.. That's the only way I can guess cause I see a-lot of people slagging off England all the time.

So what?

What I said in previous posts clears this up...

Fenian means neither.

When they use the word fenian they mean catholic in general. FACT most people think it means catholic. I know the original meaning, & I know the meaning when most Rangers supporters/general people hear/say it. Everybody ain't all clued up you know.

There is clearly a difference between shouting homophobic abuse at a homosexual and singing "Oh the Hibees are gay".

Nope, not if you use it in derogatory way, Jesus am I talking to a 5 year old?

I think you know your talking out your arse here, who are you trying to bull shit here? Yourself, or me cause I know they ain't chanting it in a nice friendly way. "Ohh the Hibees are happy". :)

Pamplona might have something to say about that.

Well I can't comment about east fife never heard of it :D .

There's that famous Glasgow schooling we're all so jealous of. Cowdenbeath is in West Fife, heard of that?

Fair enough.

Wow, ITV, there's the standard for journalism of the highest quality. Some Scots genuinely do hate England but they must be in the tiny minority, most of it is entirely banter.
