Can MLS teams take a player on loan from another league as is done with the Premiership and other European leagues?

I think players can be loaned to MLS. And then MLS assigns them to a team.

That is what was done with Landon Donovan a few years ago. He was owned by Bayern Leverkusen who loaned him to MLS which then assigned him to LA. The first couple of years he was with the Galaxy he could technically have still been recalled to Bayern.

I think I remember reading somewhere that MLS does not take foreign players on loan, only U.S. players. And that MLS only takes players on loan that it thinks it can eventually sign outright.

Some of that could have changed but I can't think of any current loan players so I'd guess that policy is still in effect.

I don't think so.

Even if he was, he fits the normal loan criteria: a U.S. player and likely to be signed outright.

I thought a few years ago, LA had Saragosa and whoever that other Brazilian midfielder was on loan deals w/options to buy from a partnership they had w/Sao Paulo. Also, was Mina a loan for FCD?

Watching that Lamar Hunt Cup game last week they mentioned that Mina was on loan to FCD.

Mina was on loan for two years from CD El Nacional. He was just signed by MLS in February to a direct contract.

Saragosa was on loan from Sao Paolo.

So there are probably more loans going on around the league.
