Mostly we already knew this, but Söhn will be using the bench more this season, especially Moose.

I just hope we don't start a Moooooose chant for him. As a Skins fan, I think that chant shouldn't be allowed in RFK.

Well if he shows well, he'll be Justin Credible.

I feel like such a dumbass... after I saw this thread I was searching all over the WASHINGTON POST website for the story, rather than clicking the link and actually reading the link to the WASHINGTON TIMES

While the paradigm may break down when it comes to soccer news, I find in general that whenever the Washington Times says ANYTHING, it's best to check the Post to see if it's true before accepting it as fact.

That's not fair. John Haydon does a good job with regards to United. He has another full-time job with The Times and does soccer coverage on the side. Besides, he's just about the nicest person one could ever meet.
I won't argue the fact that a few years ago The Times was a bit cavalier in their coverage of United but Haydon does a good job covering the team considering he has precious little time to do so, especially in comparison to the time and column inches alloted to Steve Goff.

I have no doubt that Haydon is an honorable man and good at his job. I have no intention of casting asparagus (or any other vegetable) his way. I think, however, that he has great misfortune to work for a group of editors and publishers whom I would not trust with telling me that the sun will come up in the east tomorrow.

I had forgotten about Ken Wright's "coverage" of the team. That was awful.

That's probably why he said "While the paradigm may break down when it comes to soccer news . . ." before slamming the Times otherwise.

Tommy Soehn had very high praise for Moose at the Barra Brava meet the coach night. He said last year Moose had good practice days followed by mediocre days (which he also said is common for rookies) but this year he's been steady in a good way. And since we're still pretty shallow at right mid (hopefully Fred or Yinka will help us here) it makes sense Moose would be moving up on the depth charts.
I can't wait.
MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSE!!!
Easiest chant an RFK crowd can learn! Makes "Freddy, Freddy!" seem complicated in comparison. :)

Well, we had a Gooooose chant for a while, that didn't seem to make concrete fall from the structure any faster!

:D[language nerd]But an M is the easiest sound to articulate. G is much more difficult. Hence Moose is easier to say, by a lot. And the M is conveniently rounded, which helps lead right into an exagerated ooooooooooooooooo noise.[/language nerd]
[DC United nerd]Mooooooooooooooooooooose[/doesn't end here]

Well its interesting.
Ray Hudsdon in his last year did not play his rooks, Alpha and Stokes and very poorly managed Esky. Enter Peter Nowak and he immediately starts two of them. Felt like a breath of fresh air.
Now Tommy Soehn is making noises about Moose and my guess is that he will be playing several of the younger guys more than Nowak would have. Older guys like Moreno and Olsen and Gomez will get more rest. Another breath of fresh air.

I couldn't agree more Skip. Nowak consistently had United ready for the season, and we dominated the first half. In his initial season, he whipped them into shape and they peaked at the right time--the end of the season. But the next years we shot out early and then burned ourselves out. We neither paced ourselves, nor prepared our bench players along the way. As a result, the starters wore down and were unable to be adequately rested later in the season because the bench players simply weren't ready.
Soehn has committed to both bringing in reliable, healthy new players (to help the attack and cut down on injured players), and clearly offered more playing time to the capable young players. I think these are very positive moves. Guys like McTavish, de Roux, and Moose will finally get chances to prove themselves. Someone like Dyachenko will get increased minutes. Walker will get minutes as well, but he did under Nowak anyway. My only fear is whether the defense can stay healthy all season.
I just hope that Soehn is the motivator that Nowak was, because under Piotr, everyone knew they had to give their very best every moment. While Piotr chose not to go very deep in the roster--despite our reserve team showing a lot of ability--he was quick to yank a starter if he failed to perform. I know the subs will be trying to make the most of their time. I'm hoping Soehn instills the same sense of urgency in his starters that Nowak did.
