we're getting a banner created to hang at the KiXX game on the 24th, and i came up with 2 basic options. both will be white vinyl (laminated) with black printing, complete with grommets for ease of hanging.

the first will be 2 1/2 feet x 12 feet, with jolly franklins flanking the name/website:

the second will be 3 feet x 12 feet, with single jolly franklin and the name/website:

which one would you like us to use?

I like both but if I have to choose, I like the simplicity and readability of the one logo.

I like both but if I have to choose, I like the simplicity and readability of the one logo.FINALLY, Bry's ABSOLUTELY RIGHT :D about something! (Record this date!)
Not only is the single logo graficly more effective, but you get 'WAY MORE bang for the buck' - the banner is LARGER (an extra half foot taller!), and the type and logo are, too, thus making it more visible, legible, and recognizable!!
ERGO - "no brainer"!

I like the second one better for the reason that there is one less feature on the banner, which lends towards giving the website address slightly more prominence (which is an important part of what the banner should convey to the general public, in my opinion).

I like the second one better [because] there is one less feature on the banner, which lends towards giving the website address slightly more prominence (which is important).Congrats and thanx for being RIGHT!
But, may I extend your point one step further? Indeed, it actually gives EVERYTHING on the banner "more prominence" and impact.

Single frank seems more "bannerish" if that makes any sense...

i think i wanna change my vote now. What are you trying to say - you voted WRONG  the first time?!? The DOUBLE logo
Aren't these YOUR designs? How could YOU possibly pick the WRONG one?
OK, we'll let you change, now that you have recognized the folly of your ways (besides, it takes a REAL man to admit that he is wrong, especially in front of a bunch of goons and thugs!). We're proud of you! ;)

We wanted something to keep. Banners aren't cheap. So no matter what the owners choose, we have a banner if we put it in black and white.

consider: black on white can be difficult to read, and the white background can get very dirty and covered w/ 'cake-dirt' if it is vinyl.
If you are looking for something to save, consider black on a pale/soft yellow, which is easiest for the eye to focus on and to read, ESPECIALLY from distance (the reason for "old" road signs being black on yellow!).

black on white is difficult to read? you can't have any more contrast than that, so i'm not understanding your reasoning behind that.

it's the basic option i have from the printer, and at $8 a square foot, it's not something we're willing to spend a ton more on. when we do have a team to support, and are charging membership fees, we'll have more money to spend, and therefore more freedom in color options.

Did ya order it?
am sending the file this evening, and will have it thursday or friday.

It is not a "contrast" issue (naturally, you are correct there!), but a visual acuity consideration. And don't dismiss the "dirty" issue too lightly, either!
The visibility concern is just a factoid that I picked up when I taught communications and worked for a corporate image development/design house. It is based on scientific research - just like the fact that the eye CANNOT focus on crimson/scarlet next to navy/dark blues w/o 'crawling'!
