Which Is The Real Group Of Death?: Copa America

Some forums seem to think that Group B is the "group of death". - Brazil, Ecuador, Chile, Mexico. Although, it's surely a very tough group, Group C, Argentina, Colombia, Paraguay, USA, seem to me like it's the real group of death.

Both groups have 3 WC '02 + WC '06 participants.
Both groups have at least 1 Finalist in the last 2 editions of the Copa.

Based on latest FIFA Rankings:
GROUP B:
BRAZIL #3
MEXICO #21
ECUADOR # 24
CHILE #32

VS.

GROUP C
ARGENTINA #1
PARAGUAY #29
USA #30
COLOMBIA #31

Based on their average COPA AMERICA finish in their last 6 participations (USA we'll only use their 2 to come out with an avg) -

GROUP B:
BRAZIL -- avg 2.6th place finish
MEXICO -- avg 3.8th place finish
ECUADOR -- avg 8.3rd place finish
CHILE -- avg 8.7th place finish
OVERALL GROUP AVG FINISH : 5.85TH PLACE


VS.

GROUP C
ARGENTINA --avg 4.4th place finish
PARAGUAY -- avg 7th place finish
USA -- avg 8th place finish
COLOMBIA -- avg 4.1th place finish
OVERALL GROUP AVG FINISH : 5.87TH PLACE

Really very close stats but Brazil's and Mexico's results skew that average to their favor. Having the US only participate in only 2 Copa's make's it a bit more difficult to gauge.

What do you guys think is the toughest group?

por que son las selecciones mas fuertes, por que esta brazil que a sido varias veces campeon del mundo , esta Mexico que si bien nunca a ganado copas mundiales tiene un muy buen equipo y viene haciendo las cosas bien, por otro lado esta Ecuador que el ultimo mundial no les dejo tan mal sabor de boca ya que fueron eliminados muy apenas contra inglaterra que la verdad ecuador tambien pudo haber salido victorioso, y por ultimo y no menos importante esta chile que ha llegado a una semifinal en mundiales trae un muy buen equipo esta suazo, matias fernandes, y otros la verdad bastantes buenos

Group C is defenently the Group of Death, I think Paraguay and Colombia are both a little bit better then Ecuador and Chile and we know what USA can do against Mexico, Brasil while better then Argentina doesnt try as hard as the Argies in the group stages and only go full gear in the knockout rounds.

On paper group C is hardest, HOWEVER, USA will not take an A squad so that leaves group B as the group of death, cause as far as I know, all teams in group B will take full squads, even Brazil.

That means USA is bringing their top squad, if they bring their "b' guys. After all a team that can only tie 1 game, lose both and not pass the 1st round in the WC, really wasn't that strong in the 1st place. So, they in turn are starting new. Argentina always play these tourneys FULL force!

Anyway, i think its group B mainly because 3 of 4 went to world cup. Brasil is brasil, Chile has won most of their past friendly's with a new team and ecuador went to wc and has good players.

You cant judge what is The Group of Death by how far they went in the WC.. Mexico and Ecuador both had much easier groups then Paraguay and USA.

Los 2 grupos estan casi-casi igual. De pronto si se considera que Colombia llego a las semis de la ultima Copa America de pronto el grupo C es mas fuerte.

Para mi no tiene nada que ver que Chile este en el grupo.
Si hay 3 equipos que llegaron a la 2nda ronda de un Mundial (hace menos de un anho), la verdad es que no veo que haya que darle mucha vuelta al asunto.

Ok, let's see the Conmebol WCQ (2004-2005) positions instead:

BRAZIL over Argentina (both with 34 pts, Brazil 1rst for goals dif)
ECUADOR over Paraguay(both with 28 pts, Ecuador 3rd for goals dif)
Colombia over CHILE

And in Concacaf WCQ positions(2004-05):
MEXICO over Usa (both with 22 points, Mexico 1rst for goals dif.).
