So I had the Harpoon Hibernian Ale (Spring one) the other week and I swear it tasted better last year...I will pick up Sam Adams White Ale tonight and see which tastes better.
Harpoon has the IPA which is decent and just released a Brown Ale that is year round and damn good
Sam Adams has the Boston Lager and Boston Ale and I usually lean towards Sam at the pub...
Sam v Harpoon (IMO regarding the seasonals):
Harpoon Winter is better
Sam Octoberfest is better
I enjoyed both Summers, so a draw there
TBA on the Spring beers
anyone else prefer one over the other?

I don't know if Sam Adams has an equivalent, but I love Harpoon Dark, which is pretty close to a German Dunkel.

I have had both, but it has been a while since I have seen the Harpoon Dark anywhere other than the brewery...

I do what I can for people don't want to spend all day arguing about alleged shirt sponsors ;)

I think Sam has better beers when it comes to similar brews. Boston Ale is better than Harpoon Ale. Sam Brown>Harpoon Brown. and so on. There are lots of styles of Sam out there that Harpoon doesn't brew. The Hibernian is one Harpoon does that Sam doesn't. Unless the Scotch Ale would be comparable and in that case I would actually go w/ the Harpoon in that case.
In the end, I'd take Sam anyday over Harpoon. The Harpoon Summer is probably my favorite Harpoon beer and theres a pretty big drop off after that. I still have a lot of beer left to drink though.
also, Harpoon Winter Warmer tastes like deuce. anyone else agree?

I feel like a rookie.
Then again I don't drink a lot of beer.

I'm a big fan of Harpoon IPA. I find it quite refreshing. Boston Lager from Sam I'm not a huge fan of, I take the Black Lager or Brown Ale over that any day. Harpoon doesn't make a stout that I'm aware of, and Sam's Cream Stout is delish. I'd have to say I like them both for different things.

I am a super big fan of Harpoon's UFO in the summer.

Yeah UFO is way better than the Sam hefeweizen.

The raspberry UFO is amazing. Yummy summer goodness.

Me too. Other than the Harpoon IPA I'm pretty much equally happy with anything from either brewery unless it's a style I don't care for.

I usually pick Sam over Harpoon but I liked the Harpoon Winter, thought it nice a nice taste of spices that was good around the holidays. I found Sam Winter decent but rather bland...
I have to agree that Harpoon Summer is their best with UFO and IPA distant second and third

and ya know, I thought the poon winter wasn't as good this year as last year.
I love poon because they are small and local and make a good product, but they've been a bit inconsistant lately.
thier hunny barres (hundred barrels) have been awesome so far.
Both Lagers are excellent.
The darks are both great (black ale and poon dark).
UFO kicks the crap out of SA's Heif, but I think I like sam summer better than the poon summer.
I think each has certain styles they do better.
I do have to say, I am so sick of poon IPA.

yay! finally found a 6 of Long Shot!
I must say. All three beers in this pack were great. Old Ale, Boysenberry Wheat, and Dortmunder Style Export.

Very hard to pick one as a winner out of the three of these. The Dortmunder was a nice, clear beer that had a very malty taste to it but it wasn't overpowering at all. Very mellow at the end and out of the three had the closest taste to beer.
The Boysenberry Wheat beer was asking for me to drink it once I opened the bottle. The smell of it alone makes you want to shotgun 10 of them. Cloudy but with no sediment, the Boysenberry beer had a very well blended mix of fruit and beer. Enough so you could really enjoy the boysenberry flavor but not forget that you are drinking a beer. The only downside was that after finishing it, I wasnt ready to crack another one open right away. I would definetly say this would be a good beer to go w/ food but not to pound.
The Old Ale was a real kick in the mouth. If this beer were any darker, it would be black. Very heavy beer that is definetly for slow enjoyment. Not to mention, it's 10.6% alcohol. If you've ever had the Long Trail Double Bag, you'vve had somethign similar to the Old Ale then. however, the Old Ale is definetly stronger in the alcohol department and you can taste it. This beer was a meal in itself and I really like it.

Yeah I got a six of the longshot not too long ago. I liked it. I thought the boysenberry was a bit too fruity, but the others were very good.
