Speaking of season ticket sales, here's an interesting answer to a question about RSL season ticket sales by Steve Pasterino, RSL's general manager, on an RSL blog, Are You Loyal? (http://rsldeuce.blogspot.com/2007/03/fpe.html):
MLS does not like me to release official numbers… but we are FOURTH in MLS, behind Toronto, LA and DC Only.
Nice.

this thing was kind of ridiculous, if i'd known the lines were going to be so long i would have just let them mail them to me.
i felt real bad for the guys signing autographs (crowe, moose, and kpene i think) when kids brought up these huge freddy adu posters that they wanted signed, the guys were just like "uh...."

I went over around 3 p.m. and there really wasn't much of a line. The players looked a little bored, though they had the NCAA tournament on the television. Moose was funny.

I dragged my friend's kid along with me. After picking up the tickets we went up to the top of the stadium to look down at the field from up high. As we were leaving she said, "That was kind of a boring event, but at least we got to ride the metro."

Can't recall exactly when we went, around 2:30 or 3:00 I think. The line was huge - but since we have Screaming Eagles tickets we cut right through it :) The glares we got for cutting past the line made me feel like a Chivas fan ;)
The players were not very clearly marked as to who was who. Moose is semi-recognizable because he's been around for a year, I recognized Crowe from a picture posted here on draft day (but if we had two huge new black guys on the team, I wouldn't have known), and figured it was Kpene based on the hair cut (he says his name is pronounced: "penny").
The ticket mistress was friendly and efficient, and we, of course, had to buy a little stuffed panda with a DC t-shirt keychain, then we were on our way.

wasn't feeling well -- and literally slept through this event -- guess they'll have to mail them to me.

I was one of the unfortunate SE's who stood in line (with a few other
SE's) only to find out we could have skipped the cold for the warmth of our Ticket Mistress. Would have been a better event if it were in a larger area and maybe had a little more flair to it like the SE's Season Kick-off. I for one wouldn't mind helping DCU plan such events for a small fee other other form of compensation. ;)

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who was a bit mystified, I felt like kind of an asshole for not recognizing them, but I had never seen a picture of Crowe, and Moose I think had changed his hair or something.

If you went at 5:45 like I did, you would have been in and out in 5 minutes! There were a few people hanging around at that point, but if any of them were players, I sure as heck didn't recognize them.

It was only Moose's crazy, unmanageable (some might say Lastort-like) hair that clued me into who he was (he was sitting down, so I couldn't tell he was 5'6").
Crowe looks like a more fearsome, less fat version of Zach Thornton. I do not mind an imposing goalie at all. Hope he develops the skills, I would not rush into the box for a shot if he was coming out for the ball, if I was a forward.

I liked Moose's hair. And Anna agreed when we left that he was cute. :D
I don't know Zach Thornton but I agree re: Crowe and rushing the box.

I would like to apologize for that. When I arrived there was no line per se and we were so busy trying to sort out the ticket booklets that seemed to be placed into the boxes in some bizarre random order that I had no idea that there were folks standing outside.
After you arrived and informed me of the folks out in the line, I periodically made runs outside to make sure that Nest dwellers weren't shivering out there needlessly.
Baby steps. It was their first year doing this, I am sure they will have a more streamlined process worked out next time around.

This was definitely trial and error stuff going on.
The one big problem I had was the system they used to identify which box your tickets was in. They basically took your ID# and cross-referenced it to a computer printout that was legitimately 6 miles long. From there they find the # of your ticket box and then fish through the box to find your tix.
If they simply had just set up at least two computer terminals, they could have simply gotten the ID# and corresponding ticket box and you would be on your way quickly.
Oh well..

So was this for all season ticket holders or just a select few? This thread is the only place I've seen it mentioned. Way to go, DC United!

OK for their first attempt. We got their about 2:30 and waited 20 minutes.
All that room inside and we had to wait out in the cold. The computer thing was a bit annoying.

I got an email from my ticket rep about this a couple of weeks ago.
My recent email from the team has been heavy on getting me to buy season tickets (I own 4) so I've been ignoring most of it.
