Can't wait to see what those guys can do.

edit: well, sorry, thought that other thread was just a speculation thread...go ahead and delete this mug, I just scanned the thread titles.

About frickin' time! I hope that all 13 come! We need to look at them and see what they can do for USMNT, especially with Gold Cup and Copa American coming up soon. I think Michael Bradley is not needed sinc ehe will be busy nagivating U 20 in YWC this summer but he can use those two friendlies to add more senior experience to his belt in his preparation for his possible eventual inclusion on WC 2010.

Looks like Europe will be a lonely place next week for McBride and Freidel.

Looks like everyone halfway-worthy of a cap (i.e. NOT PLAYING IN NORWAY OR SWEEDEN) is going to get a chance to show. Good job Bob.

What is wrong with Norway and Sweden? Agreed on Bob doing a good job.

While I am very happy they are coming, as I always advocate giving as many players looks as possible, when were these two supposed to come in before this? Please explain. You seem to imply they have been overlooked somehow.

Demerit. No way. If yoy use reality, player pool and timelines. Something that rarely exists here. Simek. Very outside possibility last cycle. Very outside, and while it is clear I am not a BA fan even I couldn't bust his chops on that one.

Who is performing there worthy of a look?

Agreed. I'm glad Jay is getting his shot (he does deserve it) but this is the first time he should have realistically been called in. Same with Frankie.

It'll be nice to see a couple friendlies with what should be classified as our A team minus a couple guys (Convey, Gibbs)

I'm pretty sure that they are both starting their pre season. So it might be hard to pull players out of camps for a friendly.

Also, this is the ideal time to bring in new players into camp. When you can have them for a full week, not just two days.

We have few YAs over in Sweden and Norway like Charlie Davies and Adin Brown but they need to do more to show what they can. Adin Brown may not get many call ups because of top 2 GKs in EPL by the names of Tim Howard and Marcus Hahnemann. I would say that Norway and Sweden may be a little better than MLS in quality matches. If you don't think so, then why are so many scouts from top european leagues consistently coming over there while so few come to look at MLS? One day, MLS will reach a point where they can compete with likes of those and perhaps CCC.

Edited: ButlerBob, you got a point here and thank you for clarifying that here.

Let me add that I'm interested to see how Simek and DeMerit's play translate to the international game and with Ecuador bringing a pretty strong roster, I'm excited for at least the first match of this series. Just hope they don't bring the hackfest that they've done in previous friendlies...

Eucador being a hack team? I don't recall them being that way since i did catch them playing in WC06 and they looked impressive. Althought they did exit after a loss in round of 16.

I don't think Simek has done anything close to warranting a call-up.

If it wasn't for the overloaded schedule this summer I would agree.

What he has done is be a consistent starter for a middling team in the 2nd division.

You figure that we need 4 fullbacks this summer. With possible injuries Frankie gets his shot.

We have what? Stevie, SuckBright and then Spector whos was on the radar, but limited in his time so far.

Then propsects, so I can see why he gets his look. I don't doubt he could do a job versus most C'CAF comp considering he is a consistent starter in the CCC.

Last time we met in 2002 it wasn't pretty. Its been 5 years though and hopefully things have changed.

OK then, what has Feilhaber DONE to deserve a callup? A few minutes in Champions League and some domestic matches due to a rash of injuries. He is basically a reserve player for a mid-level European club. Many a player with this resume wouldn't warrant a callup to their national team. At Feilhaber's age Simek was in the Arsenal system.

I think it was explained that Bradley is establishing a new depth chart and looking at as many players as possible. Don't take it as anything more or less. Many players from many countries only get a cup of coffee with their national team. This may be Frankie's one chance.

I'm sorry what other right backs besides Stevie C deserve one???

Are we going to play with just one?

The CC is WAY above the level of MLS - we could argue the amount of skill until we're blue in the face and no one could prove the other wrong, but in terms of day in and day out competition and the pressure involved each week to perform, MLS is a rec league.

EVERY single player who has EVER come to Europe - first thing they notice is the 'speed', if we were to talk about the skill. Oh, I know, CC, all they do is hoof it up the field..blah, blah, blah.

Simek, just based on starting 99% of the games since signing with Wed - which is traditionally a Prem Club - makes him deserving of a look.

You haven't seen him play and not many people have - the PROS at a PRO club seem to think he's good though. Imagine that.

What has Beasley done this season to warrant a call-up? Absolutely nothing. He didn't even make yesterday's game day roster against Chelsea. He has been complete crap since the WC. BTW Beasley is probably my favorite player but he hasn't earned a call-up based on this season's play.

Now, on to Simek. Have you seen him play? I have, numerous times (via Setanta) over the last 2 years and while he's not flashy and he's not a star, he's has performed extremely well and consistently despite being 22. He's tough on the tackle, his positioning keeps getting better and better, he's fairly quick, and has shut down some of the best wingers in the CCC. He has been called out by his manager and the media as being extremely instrumental in Wed.'s rise this season. Not to mention he's their leading candidate for player of the year. Recently he's been getting in the attack more and has shown he can pump in some decent balls from the wing. Not to mention since Jan's tranfer window, when Wed. sold a Bougherra to Charlton, Wed. has often employed a backline with the ages of 19, 21, 22, and 23. Frankie's been the most experienced of the bunch and has to led them. All I'm saying is Frankie has earned his look. Will he be an option down the road? Who knows. Will he be a better option than what we have? I don't know. But it hurts no one to bring him for a look. Our program is not in a position to overlook Frankie and DeMerit. We need depth and the only way to build it is by bringing these guys in.

Yeah, it looked like RR was on the fast track at RBg, but those injuries. Sigh.

It's been mentioned, and I whole heartedly agree it's time for a Euro camp.

Same way we have our winter camp the Euros should get together for a week or so during open dates.

What's the harm? $$$? Hope not.

Jonathan Spector. But if all three of Dolo, Spector and Simek are truly coming in then I'd expect maybe Bob plays Spector on the left?
