NASCAR Nextel Cup Series - 2007 Schedule (http://www.nascar.com/races/cup/2007/data/schedule.html)
Next Race: 3/18/07 - Kobalt Tools 500 - Atlanta Motor Speedway at 1:30pm on FOX
Current Nextel Cup Champion Jimmy Johnson is coming off an impressive victory in Las Vegas last weekend sits fourth in the standings behind veteran Mark Martin, teammate Jeff Gordon and Jeff Burton.
Thoughts on this race??
Can the old timer stay atop the Championship Standings??
Will DEI and Dale Jr.'s team finally put it together and finish in the top 10 after three disappointing races??
Who'll be the first rookie to win a Nextel Cup race this season?? Ragan, Montoya, Reutimann, Menard...
Will Jeff Gordon finally get through puberty??
Many questions to be answered this year in NASCAR...

I never go NASCAR, even after I wen to the Papsi 300 in Richmond and had a blast a few years back. However, I've made an effort this season to get to know the sport. It comes on late sunday afternoons when there usually isn't much on. I kind of dig it, but there's sill some issues I have, especially with the restart rule.
I extended my stay in Vegas to see the race on sunday. It was fun watching the race and having semi-intelligent conversations with gearheads.
I used to favor Jeff Gordon, because he was in his prime when I was on my ship. He pissed off a lot of NASCAR fans and that made me happy. Now I know that the #8 car used to coach the Cowboys and the #20 car feels he let down the employees of Home Depot at Daytona.
I'm thawing to the sport, but I'm happy to be a very casual fan right now. If the race in NH doesn't conflict with a Revs game, I'm there. If it does, I'll probably catch the Busch race the day before.

As for Hotlanta, I see Tony Stewart taking it. He's a perfecionist and heads will roll if his car isn't ready to win again. Jr's head is dragging down his speed. Fenway's team is underperforming (except the 2nd race of course), so look for them to bounch back.
Montoya already took a race in Mexico a week and a half ago. Although, he did bone over a teammate. He was a stud in Formula Une, so I'll bet he takes a Nextel race this year.
Whatever happened to Dick Trickle?
(no, not THAT one, the driver)

Alright, I'm done.
I tried watching the Daytona 500, I figured if any race would get me into it (other then the road courses), it would be the "Super Bowl of NASCAR".
Watching it, I got bored quickly watching the cars go round and round and round and round and round and round and round and round.
I bet if I actually liked cars and knew the ins and outs of them I'd enjoy NASCAR a lot more.
But Mike, I'll challenge you. I'll watch a race with you and you show me exactly why it's so exciting.

Try going to a race. Even if you don't like the sport, the experience is well worth it.

I second that...I went a few years back to the NH race with my dad (Billy Bob Skeeter Jeff Jarrett won)...I still dont give a crap about the *insert sponsor here* cup or the whole NASCAR thing in general (calling it a sport is stupid), but you could bring a cooler in with you and it was in July so it was a nice day to be there.
Mark Martin is who I go for if it comes up.

try to watch Bristol or the restrictor plate races, much more exciting. The new superspeedways suck, too big.Bristol is after Atlanta always a good time to watch NASCAR.

I can't stand Gordon or Hendrick Motorsports. Don't know why just don't like them. #8 is DEI not Joe Gibbs and Joe Gibb coached the Washinbgton Redskins. YEs Tony Stewart is good hardnosed racer.
Roush Racing is the answer in my book, clearly they have lost whatever edge they had the last two years. Look for Carl Edwards to win in the ATL.

Roush Fenway that is. John Henry added a sweet revenue stream this offseason. If they ever make a Sox hat incorporating one of the Roush racers, I'd probably get one.

John Henry is the "owner of record" of the #17 DeWalt Tools ride driven by Matt Kenseth....

I hate nascar
first of all- it's just a giant pollution party. lets see how much oil we can burn, CO2 we can emmit, rubber we can waste and toss into landfills. it's kind of offensive if you even give a tiny shit about the enviorment.
besides that the snoze factor is massive at least in F1 and Indy you actually have to stear. It's a joke.
Nascar is only fun when 1. there is a crash or 2. a car flys into the stands and kills a bunch of spectators.
I kid, I don't to see anyone get hurt, but.....

I like F1 and Rally races, but I don't like NASCAR. I do respect some of the drivers as it's tough during the races, not to mention you can die, but I just find it boring, simple as that. One thing me and a buddy of mine have with each other is that he respects soccer and I respect NASCAR, but we both can't stand either sport:D
I actually had many of the small die-cast cars when I was a kid. David Pearson, Cale Yarborough, Donnie Allison, etc.
Anyone remember "Johnny Lightning"?
Now...not interested. To be honest, I haven't really given the sport a chance, but at this point in my life, I am getting old, and I have a lot going on:
Proving that Michael Parkhurst's injury was actually caused by the attack of a Sting Ray!
Trying to convince the Kraft's that August 12th is not the only day the Revs will be playing this season.
...and my favorite...Where are my kids? - am I supposed to be picking them up somewhere??
