both are great DM in the world, calm presice long pass, good skill.Frings has better defence skill and shoot.but Pirlo is the best long passer in the world. Frings is older than pirlo.
however 24 year old frings was not better than pirlo, when pirlo 24 years old he has already become the "brain" of milan.it seems that between 24 and 27 years old Frings have tremendous improments and become as good as Pirlo.
not only Frings but also other germany players seems have great improments during 24 to 27 for example Summer and Janker and Schneider while Italian and Spanish player doesnt.
So which makes germany players have such improments at older age?the training style or something else?

Dunno wat the pt of this thread is, but I'd still rather have Pirlo...he practically beat us in Dortmund...

They would make a great pairing in the middle of the field. But it still wouldn't be as good as Gattuso-Pirlo, they both complement each other so well, I wonder what happened to them in Milan?

Well Germany were strongest when they had the combo of Frings and Ballack, Frings shut out Argentina's most creative player (Riquelme) earlier, so the absense of Frings sure helped Pirlo in Dortmund. Frings had played better in the world cup upto the quater final that is. But after that he was banned. Frings goal was better than Pirlo's goal not to mention Frings never had a great team around him like Pirlo did. Germany went in with an descent/average side, Italy went in with a top side.

They are both different types of players, Frings does a similiar job to Guttoso and not Pirlo, however Frings can enforce the attack and has a brillant strike as seen at the WC. The Frings and Pirlo comparison is maybe not the right comparison to make, more Guttoso and Frings.

Frings is not a DM. The best way to utilize his talent is to play him at right midfield like shown in the 2002 WC or at Bremen when Baumann plays the holding role. This only worked so well last summer because Ballack played almost as another DM making it a flat midfield. Whenever Frings has to do the job alone the defense's usually a complete mess.

Like in the Confederations Cup (my how long ago that was :p)

Makes the comparison between Frings and Gattuso all the more competent, Gattuso often plays RM as well but is still the enforcer, like Frings.

I still stand by the theory that if we had Frings, we would have beaten Italy. Handled France in the Final and won the world cup. ********ing Argentina.

frings has more skill on the ball and in attack than gattuso.

Was it you who described frings as "like makalele but with more skills" hertha in the other thread? It was either you or footyfan.

Frings and pirlo do different things. Hard to compare. But frings is hard to compare to gattuso as well.

I think frings is best comparable to ballack really.

i dont know about sammer but remove jancer on your list. jancker was great when he was below 22.. he grew too big to play soccer afterwards..

I'll remeber Jancer for a bycycle goal against Real madrid in 2009 champions league
