From a BBC interview.
Gregg Berhalter is slightly different. He played in the last two World Cup games for the USA, and played very well, and since then there's been quite a few enquiries. He's actually been across to Greece, talked to a Greek team, nothing materialised there. There was an offer to go to Turkey, and now I believe there's another foreign club that are showing keen interest in him. So there is the possibility that Gregg may be leaving, but for any player it's always their decision. And because of the uncertainty, with two players on the transfer list, any moment they could be gone, that's the reason why I feel that it's important that I move to try and bring in another defender.
Time to play where in the world can Gregg go!

And this little bit:

TF also went to Wigan v PNE yesterday to see our opening opponents. Has bought house and whole family moving in this week. Also said tht 19 players had left the club since he came on board - no enquiries for Deano but lots for Berhalter.
TF being Francis, Deano being Dean Austin, another listed defender at Palace.

interesting. lots of team are interested yet there has not been a bleep on the radar screen from any clubs since his travels to greece that never materialized.
perhaps there is one team seriously interested but they (CP) want a little more than that team may have offered and hence, they wanna up the ante a bit by saying many clubs are after him...

Palace is also looking to sign Brentford defender Darren Powell for £750,000. The clubs have agreed on the fee and they look to finalize the deal within 24 hrs.

Except for Old Firm (and it's not great there, either),no one in the SPL has any money to speak of. The league has no TV deal (last I heard) and is financial straits.
Germany? Back to Holland?

GB is being held for ransom like a piece of meat.
The football gods have to come up with a better system.

No, they signed a television deal with the BBC last Wednesday.

Trevor Francis speaking on Gregg Berhalter at yesterday's per-season forum for supporters at Selhurst Park:
"Gregg Berhalter is slightly different. He played in the last two World Cup games for the USA, and played very well, and since then there's been quite a few enquiries.
He's actually been across to Greece, talked to a Greek team, but nothing materialised there. There was an offer to go to Turkey, and now I believe there's another foreign club that are showing keen interest in him.

(For those, obviously, who care. Anyone who wants a fuller text of what Francis said about life at San Selhust can send me a private message with their e-mail address).

Any speculation as to which club(s) it could be that are looking at Berhalter?
I think Germany would be the most logical choice. I see him moving to a low end Bundesliga team or a 2nd bundesliga team.
I dont see him going back to Holland. I have no reason to support this theory.

The only reason I don't think it's Holland is that the clubs there are relatively worse off money wise than other European leagues.

Just got back from Selhurst Park after watching the Palace-Charlton first team friendly and there was no sign of Berhalter whatsoever. By my reckoning, he wasn't on the pitch, nor on the subs bench, nor behind the bench with the rest of the reserve/non-matchday squad. So perhaps this helps confirm (not that it was in doubt from TF's comments) that he's talking to some club. Obviously, either he and/or TF thought he didn't need to make an appearance with the team tonight.

Turkey would be a good fit for a defender of Berhalters attributes, its a direct style league so a defender that can win high balls is useful.
Scotland would also be a perfect fit.
Holland would be bad as the Dutch league is a speed over size league.
Germany if he can get an offer in BL.1.
I think Scotland would be best as the language barrier is not there.
Also on an interesting note I played as Crystal Palace on the CMdemo and one of the first moves I made was adding Darren Powell of Brentford. That makes me feel really dumb that I would share a common idea with TF.

Point one: Seeing as Gregg plays like a Turkey, you probably have a point.
Point two: Bollocks. Clevor Trevor will sign Powell and play him as a creative midfielder, making room for him by dropping Doogie. I bet you didn't come up with that.

LOL. If Ake's hurt, Palace will need another strong defensive forward...

Bollocks again. If he's hurt they'll have a stronger defensive forward than they would have if he was fit. Clever Trevor's great contribution to the tactical evolution of the game will be the 4-4-1 formation: "Well, what we set out to do was confuse the opposition, and as they were expecting eleven men on the pitch..."

Syd, I have to commend you on your ability to retain your sense of humour in a situation that must be incredibly frustrating for Palace fans...
