What exactly is A-league? Is it an actual major soccer league or just some minor league thing to mls or what?

if you go to www.usl.com you can learn more about the a-league plus it's sister leagues like the d3, pdl, and y-league.
http://www.a-league.com/ is a good site for the a-league itself.

I've never heard of the above website (www.usl.com)? I tried that address but couldn't access anything.
The USL (United Soccer Leagues) website has been "www.uslsoccer.com". Unfortunately, it is down right now due to problems with it's majority owner (UMBRO) and the dismantling of it's affiliate company (UMBRO.com) which was hosting the USL site!
I'd recommend the other site mentioned (www.a-league.com) as well as "www.usldiscussions.com", which is also a fan-run site. The first is a great source for media coverage and the second is a great place to ask questions and get invovled in "friendly banter"! :)
