What a gang of retards. Sooooo obnoxious. I mean, The Age, Melbourne's leading newspaper, and the MVFC FO have been saying Fred's gone.

http://www.theage.com.au/news/soccer/victory-may-seek-cash-deal-for-fred/2007/03/12/1173548107912.html

"MELBOURNE Victory officials are weighing up whether to seek compensation or transfer cash in the wake of Brazilian midfielder Fred's departure to US Major League club DC United."

They must read The Sun or some such fish wrap.

Or be in the grieving process at the loss of Fred. They are going through all the stages, shock, anger, denial....

That said, there was a report (http://au.fourfourtwo.com/news/47332,fury-over-fred.aspx) that said they should officially be announcing his situation being solved (departure) by Wednesday Aussie time.

Melbourne Victory Communications Manager Tony Ising told told www.au.fourfourtwo.com last night it goes against club policy for Victory officials to comment publicly on details of transfers until such matters are signed off.

“We don’t comment on these sorts of things until they’ve been sorted out. That’s our policy and right now I’m not commenting any further.

“We expect by Wednesday to see the situation officially resolved either way,” added Ising.

Fred is believed to be in Brazil right now but should he, as expected, move to DC, he’ll hook up with fellow South American stars Argentine Christian Gomez, Bolivian Jaime Moreno and newly acquired Brazilian Luciano Emilio.

Speaking of which, what number do you think will complete this picture? as I think this may be a cool enough jersey to get me to buy the rediculous thumb print template jersey (god our previous uni's were so much better).

My guess:
#11 - Esky---->Emilio
then
#9 - Freddy----> Fred

Sure. Cut and paste this link: http://homepage.mac.com/goffoz/GoffOnSport927AUS.wmv

Into Windows Media player. Or rightclick ...Save As the file

It says, "An error occurred." Probably a software issue on my end.

"Save as" did the trick, thanks.

Goff reported a $150,000 base salary - could have $30,000 in incentives/bonuses per year to bring it to $180,000 although these extra salary $ tend to be a lot lower for most MLS players in the mid-$100,000 salary range, especially DCU players.

The Aussie press is reporting $500K per season - even in Aussie $, they are way off the mark.

A key player in the Victory's A-League premiership-championship double, Fred has shunned a three-year offer from Melbourne in favour of a deal with Washington-based DC United worth about $500,000 a season.

Could have been a typo...$150,000 per year for 3 seasons = $450,000 total...about $500,000 over three seasons.

Damn are they gonna ask for a transfer fee?

Edit: What an asshole, LOL He stated on the press one time he would dream to play for australia sometime on their nat's. LOL Reminds me of what they asked Luciano Emilio on Republica Deportiva on how he once expressed he wnated to play for Honduras.

I thought that Fred was only making $78K per year in US $ for Melbourne Victory with a contract that ends June 30 so it has 3.5 months to go. If they request a transfer fee, MV say that the transfer fee should cover his salary for that time (which would only be something in the $20K - $25K range). Since a partial allocation is $125K......what would we then be we talking here..........a mini allocation, allocation lite, a lil' allocation....could be a new MLS term.

Well, you could use what would be leftover of the partial allocation to pay Fred a signing bonus or such and lessen his cap impact this season.

Agree in terms of use of allocation $ - it just seems as if the bonus/incentive $ are a lot higher than DCU typically gives so I will believe it when Goff reports it as opposed to some Aussie newspaper.

I think that these quotes are both likely taken out of context. I saw something mentioned about the Emilio quote, and it was actually someone asking him if he would like to play for the Honduras Nats, and him being nice and not saying "no," though not necessarily saying yes either. My guess is the Fred situation is similar.

Need that press conference. . .

True, i mean its the nice thing to say you'd love to play for the US nat team and then outta no where leave the country. Im sure hes just being diplomatic. I agree.
