View Full Version : Random question about attending an L1 match.

I might get a job offer in Barcelona where I would move sometime in April. I've checked that RyanAir would allow me to fly non-stop to Paris (well, Beauvais at least) to attend the OL-PSG match at the Parc des Princes in early-May.
My question is, would I have to buy tickets from OL to be able to wear my Juninho jersey without getting kicked out by the security guards? Or am I able to amicably purchase my ticket through any means and feel safe being surrounded by PSG fans? I know their ultras have been a bit rowdy of late.
I'd really love to attend this match as it would be my first OL match in person, as well as allowing me the chance to visit my Parisian family in nearby Boulogne who I stayed with for 1 month as a summer school student.

There'll be no problem with the security guards - they're looking for knives and weapons, not football kits ;)
So yes, you'll be able to sit with the greater public, but wear a jacket just in case. Honestly, it's the same everywhere - the states, france, england, etc. You'll get some looks, but probably nothing more than that. It'll be chilly anyways. Alternatively, I would say that most of the public go with a scarf rather than the whole kit. Usually the colors don't match the rest of the your outfit - a concern, really, if you're going to go out afterwards.
Lastly, the media really generalizes the situation. Don't worry, you'll have no problems whatsoever.
which arrondissement did you stay in? 16? Lucky...

Does Boulogne count as an arrondisement? It was technically outside of Paris proper. Bouglone Jean Jaures was my metro stop on the 10 line. I loved the area, but it was a 45-minute metro ride to my school...
I asked the question because I know in England that you cannot "publicly" be a fan of the away team while sitting in the home section. So it would be 100% okay for me to buy any ticket I wanted to while openly cheering for OL?
There's also a few restaurants in Boulogne I MUST visit, as I ate at some places 2-3 times a week and built friendships with managers and workers there, namely an Italian restaurant and a kebab stand.

boulogne is technically not in the 20 arrondisements, but since it's inside the périph, it's proper paris in my book.
as far as wearing an OL jersey in regular stands, i don't think you can do it! i've seen people show up with tickets at the virage nord turnstiles at gerland, and they are taken to the entrance for visiting fans. there's no aggression in it, and frankly i don't think they'd be in danger, but it's just not done afaik... besides, you'd have more fun sitting with the OL fans if you want to cheer. so you can probably get a ticket from the PSG ticket office, but they'll take you to sit with the visitors.
as for what to wear, most people at gerland (in the ends at least) wear jerseys, but for years i just wore a scarf, and if i didn't have a youngster with me (we have matching kits) i'd probably still do that.

really? In any case sitting with your own fans would definitely be more fun. That's strange to me though - it's likely because i've only gone to home matches (and the final everyone was mixed in together), but IMO it really shouldn't matter and the people I sat with (at least in the H section) probably wouldn't react if someone showed up with the jersey of the other team.

Ah ok, I think I took a walk around that area one time, when I got lost trying to find the Hippodrome w/ the weekend buses and all. Very charming area.
What kind of work did you find in Barcelona if you don't mind me asking?

It's a marketing/sales job involving import/export with ships, hence me living in Barcelona.
I'm kind of skeptical about it, since I don't really know much Spanish and obviously Catalan. I wish I could find a job in France, but I'll be happy to live anywhere in Europe.

i've since talked with people who know... (not just guessing like me  ) and as long as you stay away from boulogne or auteuil stands, you'll be OK. (i even learned that you can get into JJ or JB at gerland in visitors' strip! (just not into the ends)... you can ask the stadium attendants to let you into the OL parcage if you want to be with other lyon fans, but you'll be OK in the side tribunes.
