Just wanted to make it known that today is a great chance for us to scout our opponents against a fairly formidable side. Possibility for a convenient sprain or injury for their side, as well :p 2 oclock eastern time on Univision. I think I'm learning a little spanish, I've had to get my soccer fill from the MPL (and the occasional Champions League on ESPN) for months on end now!

Not alot of flow from Chivas, their midfield looks uninterested. Their defense is pretty solid though, Pumas getting the better run of play.

Santana chokes a wide open header.

I merged a couple posts in here from the match thread. Thought it made sense to keep this all together.

Right at the end, was that someone's brother in law cheering for Chivas in the Pumas supporters section?

First half impressions....Most of their attack seems to come from the wings, not alot of action coming down the center of the field. They were pretty lacadaisical and then turned it up real quick just missing two headers to close the half. They're pretty good in the air and play solid D. but Pumas doesn't have the offensive firepower either. Outside of Palencia no one is making much noise from that side. I think Olsen and Gros are going to have huge games to keep us in it. They don't look like the world beaters all their fans are clamoring about. Let's see what the second half brings.

The DC injury board doesn't list anybody...does this mean Perkins will be ready?

He sat out against Motagua. I sure hope he's ready, I'm not sure Nolly is up to it at this point.

Don't think there's any official word, but probably.

I know Nolly's not up to it. Pumas is only tied with them right now by the grace of their keeper. Bofo just entered the game though...

Yeah, they kind of lull you to sleep and then strike fast. Our D better be aware of everything for the full 90

I was just thinking about that. All kidding aside, I'm very very worried about Namoff. He's been the weakest link by far on the defense (yes Erpen haters, worse than Erpen). He seems either unwilling or unable to close down opponents. He's content to track back with them and stay goal side rather than taking them on and shutting down their angles. As a result, anyone running on Namoff's side has, so far, had time and space to punish us with crosses.

I think that if Soehn is going to stick with the 3-5-2 he'll need to drop Simms back in a sweeper type roll in front of the other three. It's best to have your bases covered especially if we can get up a goal or two.

Pumas isn't fairing any better in the finishing dept. The Chivas keeper did pull out a good save though.

As for our midfield...

based on what Soehn's been doing I sort of see this happening:

-------------Perkins------------

------Erpen---Boswell---Namoff-----

--------Simms-------B. Carroll------

-Olsen---------Gomez---------Gros--

--------Moreno--------Emilio-------

I don't like Olsen on the wing. He's much better in his Roy Keane role in the middle but this seems the most likely lineup.
