Klinsmann set for Roos job

Jurgen Klinsmann has emerged as front-runner to be Australia's next manager.

Football Federation Australia's boss Ben Buckley has had meetings with the leading candidates including Gerard Houllier, Guus Hiddink, Dick Advocaat and Leo Beenhakker, but it is understood his preference is with former Germany manager Kilnsmann.

"We have spoken to a number of people in recent weeks and we'd like to have someone in place by the end of this year," said Buckley.

Klinsmann exceeded all expectations when he guided Germany to a surprise third-place finish in the 2006 World Cup.

Shortly after the World Cup, the 42 year-old officially announced that he would step down as Germany's manager after two years in charge citing personal reasons.

He has spent most of his time since then in the United States with his family, but it is believed he is interested in a return to football management.

Despite speculation of a new manager being appointed, current boss Graham Arnold is expected to remain in the role at least until after the Asian Cup in August

.....talk about a stab in the back eh?

First, it doesn't seem at all clear that Klinsmann is going to take the job. The article says, "it is understood that his preference is with former Germany manager Klinsmann." It was understood that Klinsmann was Sunil's preference as well, but we all know how that turned out.

Second, how is this a stab in the back? It's doubtful that the Australian FA is even half as bureaucratic and backwards-thinking as the USSF, which according to most sources was the main reason why Klinsmann rejected their offer. If he does end up taking the Australia job, I wouldn't be surprised if it was for less money than USSF was offering. What he wants is control and comfort, not money.

Maybe he'll refuse the job because of certain "sporting reasons."

No, Klinsman we need you here.

Im kind of a new soccer fan and im wondering what were the problems that kept him from signing with America. If it was money i will be pissed. America is the richest country in the world. We could find a way to afford him

Though this will probably be the last year for Houllier at Lyon.

If Klinnsman is the new Aussie coach, I not only want Sunil fired as US Soccer prez- I want him deported to Guantanamo Bay for his "anti American" actions :)

Enjoy the travel Jurgen. If he takes this job it is just for his bank account and nothing more, well maybe that he thinks the country of Australia is beautiful and I'll second that motion.

The reasons given were undisclosed issues regarding "authority and control." Reading between the lines the argument could have been over the structure of the National Team program and hiring control over youth national team coaches.

I think in many ways I think it's too easy to blame Gulati for losing Klinsmann when what likely happened was that Klinsmann wanted what Gulati was not authorized to give him.

Gulati probably does deserve blame for not having alternative choices in place.

US Soccer deserves blame- for allowing a person as incompetant as Gulati to run uncontested for the presidency.

Lets say Klinsman takes the job and fails miserably. Will all you Klinsmann lovers be willing to bend over and take the BigSoccer chorizo? There is nothing more annoying than reading post after post about the failure of the Fed to sign Klinsman.

Though its extremely doubtful hypothetical, even if he failed in Aussie how does that mean he would fail in America?

But what we do know is that Klinnsman was Gulati's 1st choice- the fact he failed to get him proves he is an incompetant failure- no hypotheticals needed :)

I would give him control of USA soccer. He prolly wanted to play alot more international friendlies. We need to go somewhere and be uncomfortable. Not staying in America and being catered too. Playing in America for every friendly is not helping us.

Agreed. This stuff about not signing Klinsmann and the blame assigned to Gulati is just stupid. Nobody knows the facts, and in all likelihood, "Superfan" Gulati probably had the same perspective we fans did, but he has to deal with the youth soccer crowd on the USSF board.

If it was just for the money, he would have stayed with the German team. I am sure he would have gotten all the money he wanted, because after the World Cup, the DFB wanted him to stay very badly!
Who knows, maybe he and the family would even consider to move to Australia for a few years? The weather is nice, the language wouldn`t be a problem and I`m sure they have a few good schools around there too. Most importantly, he would still be able to live somewhere where (almost) nobody knows him...
I think however, that he will not become the coach of the Australian team. He will probably coach the US at a later point!

well I´m not surprised that Austria wants Jürgen...many would like to have him as a coach, as a manager etc....

the fact is that "market value" increased sharply after world cup 2006 in Germany...and Jürgen is aware of this....the another fact is that he is still "free", available "on the market" because he has not sign any contract yet. So of course until he don´t sign any contract, we will hear many rumors and of course everyone in soccer business is trying to get him....

Klinsi had a reason why he did not sign contract with Gulati.....he was thinking a lot about this job, but after making his analysis of taking USMNT job (advantage, risk) he decided different than Gulati wanted..

these rumors about Australia are also older...maybe someone of you remember that we had such thread about Jürgen and Australia....of course Australia impressed in world cup.....and it would be great challenge to coach them or manage them.....but does Jürgen know Australia team as good as USMNT team for example?:)....of course I would not rule out this opportunity..
yes Australia was also mentioned few times:)

Klinsi is currently working of few project.....I have heard that he had talks regarding other projects too - has something to do with organizing and coaching....maybe a bit "surprising" project....he should have had already talks regarding this project....i can not say what I have heard....and I also don´t think it would have a sence to set more rumors here...

he has few options open....not only one.... Australia is only one...

Klinsi would like to coach a team about that he is persuaded that he can be succesful...he is not a type of coach for "developing work"..

and maybe sometimes later in the future, he can be a coach in the USA (maybe...)... he will surely watch development in american soccer..

and what we will see....next Klinsi surprise:)
