I didn't think it would happen, but it did. UEFA is going to examine (http://www.uefa.com/uefa/keytopics/kind=512/newsid=515191.html) the elbow incident based on video footage. If they do decide to sanction him, it won't affect his playing in France, but he'll probably be suspended for whenever his next three European matches are.
I don't know, on one hand, Fred does deserve punishment, but on the other hand, it might lead to a big can of worms.

In what way would it open a can of worms? It's not like UEFA is doing anything new.

Because there are so many other similar incidents to Fred's that have gone unpunished. Whatever UEFA does, it has to be done uniformly. I have no problem with Fred picks up a suspension, but then UEFA has to apply sanctions to all players whose play was unnecessarily rough.

If Fred get's disciplined, then Mexes should as well for his tackle on Juninho in the first leg.

Elbows get punished.
Mauro tassotti of italy got a 12 game ban for an incident in the 94 world cup.

Thankfully they are doing something about it. These types of things always need to be punished. And again I don't see why this is such a foreign thing. Totti's spitting got him suspended for the same type of thing.

To be honest with you, I think that he will be in big trouble... especially when you consider the fact that this is now coupled with Navarro's punch on Bordisso's nose. They will probably hand out big punishments for both - Fred's won't be as big as Navarros but I think that they will punish both quite heavily. I think a three match Euro ban at least

i suppose it's a fair cop... but it's true that if UEFA starts reviewing everything one sees on TV whether there was a card shown or even a foul called, they'll be very busy, and open to a lot of second guessing. if fred's elbow deserves 3 matches, giannakopoulous' on beye last year should have got 6 at least, and nothing was said or done. and the list could go on and on and on...

Did Baros start against OM because Fred is in the doghouse?

not impossible but there were more changes than that in the lineup... probably just normal rotation.

Fred has received three match ban as expected.

Now, do you think Aulas will go for a new striker in the summer? It seems quite feasible to me.

The first three games will be group games, and we have Benzema and Baros. It seems pointless to buy a striker purely to fill in for those three games.
On the other hand, if Aulas is thinking long term, that's a different issue. He's been after a big name striker for a long time now.

Fred's gotta control his temper. He cannot let those defenders get on his nerves.

He cannot let those defenders get on his nerves.true... the incident with jurietti was just stupid... jurietti throws a mean elbow at fred, who retaliates à la trézeguet... meaning just enough to take the blame away from the real assassin (jurietti is among the cream of the crop of butchers) and earn a direct red... he was lucky in that respect, but OL paid the price: after that, how's the ref going to make jurietti walk like he should have for his mean elbow to malouda minutes later?
