Not that I've investigated this thoroughly (or at all) but no story I've seen lists the other finalists. Anyone know?

Here's blog stating the other finalists. (http://mysoccerblog.blogspot.com/search/label/FC%20Dallas)
The other teams up for the award are the St. Louis Rams (NFL) and the Philadelphia Flyers (NHL). United was a finalist for this award last year as well.

usually the last place team in a league doesn't get a nomination for "industry-leading excellence". if any NHL team, detroit should get the nomination, seeing as they've been a contender nearly every year of my life.

Well, I do think we win more games than those other teams :D
I love the United FO, I really do, and I am willing to believe they are run better than any MLS team's FO, but every time I've been there it's like barely controlled chaos, I find it hard to imagine professional ('merican) football and NHL franchises flying more by-the-seat-of-their-pants than United's FO seems to run.
Or this award recognizes something different than I'm thinking by "excellence or innovation" ;)

Then again, maybe a lot of NFL franchises are so entrenched they don't really care about anything or anybody else - The Prism Award is based on the following criteria: Strategic planning, Innovative marketing, Community relations, Customer service and Employee relations - Ask Redskin fans how they feel about Dan's customer service when he charges for preseason practices or for shuttle vans from the outer reaches of the parking lots - Ask communities around baseball franchises how they feel about lip service to charities and other programs in community relations - Ask basketball fans in cities that have lost their franchises how they feel about the owner's strategic planning
The DC United FO does all these things because they know its all part of the bigger picture thats necessary for soccer to have real acceptance in the American sports industry, and because its just the right thing to do - PERIOD
It might seem like controlled chaos (and at times it might actually be), but thats because they're trying their best and that they really care to do the best - Many, many others simply wouldn't and they would only seem more in control - Thats because they don't really try nearly as hard
