Hello,
If this should be in one of the sub-forums, I apologize.
I was hoping to get some good advice from the locals on locations. I will be coming down to the Revs- Bulls game on Sep 22. However, earlier that day I will be going to the Yankees game (yes, I am a Yankees fan from Mass). I was trying to get some advice as to where to stay. I would prefer to take the subway to and from Yankee Stadium, and then drive from my hotel to Giants Stadium.
If I were to stay near the meadowlands, is there easy public transportation to the Bronx? (I want to avoid driving into NYC) If not, What part of NY, or NJ should I stay in that has easy subway access to the Bronx, and easy driving access to the Meadowlands? Would it be easiest to stay in the Bronx and then drive to the meadowlands?
If someone could even recommend a specific hotel, I would appreciate it.

Thanks for the help!

New Jersey hasn't quite figured out the luster of a complete subway system.....
No rail to the meadowlands yet.

some jersey people can help you out..... once you get yourself into the Hudson tubes things get simple.

Hello,
If someone could even recommend a specific hotel, I would appreciate it.

Thanks for the help!

You might want to stay in Jersey City on the Hudson River coast (look for hotels near Pavonia / Newport / Exchange Place). There are three hotels right near path stations, which will take you into the city where you can transfer onto subway lines. They will also be fairly easy to drive to / from Giants Stadium. This area of Jersey City is also pretty safe.

They are:
Doubletree Hotel Jersey City
455 Washington Boulevard, Jersey City, NJ
(201) 499-2400

Hyatt Regency Jersey City on the Hudson
2 Exchange pl, Jersey City, NJ
(201) 469-1234

Courtyard-Jersey City Newport -
540 Washington Blvd, Jersey City, NJ
(201) 626-6600

If youy stay there, check into direct ferry service to/from the Stadium. They had it last year and it sounds like they'll do so again.

what they're not saying is that either way you're looking at quite a commute. you'd honestly be better off staying in manhattan and putting your car in the garage for the yankees game and then driving over to the meadowlands. jersey city is a short commute to downtown/33rd street, but then you've got the train to the bronx. it's a long trip, man. if you stay in midtown you're a little closer to da bronx and you're just a tunnel away from nj. unfortunately, my brain can't think of the name of any hotels right now, but there are some reasonable ones (expedia.com).

I don't know the times of the games and the weekend schedule, but you should be able to take a bus from either the Renaissance or the Sheraton into the city. From the PA, you can go across to Grand Central where you can take the subway up to Yankee Stadium.

Personally I think you are better off in Jersey, instead of the Bronx. I don't even know of any good hotels near Yankee Stadium.

Considering both these hotels have free parking you could take a cab both ways, and due to the hotel cost difference, probably still save money.

BTW the Renaissance is a great hotel and the Sheraton is a really good one..IMHOP

Thanks for the help everyone. I've decided that staying in Jersey is probably better in this situation. One of your supporters recommended (via PM) the Crowne Plaza in Secaucas. http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/cp/1/en/hotel/NYCMD/welcome
This hotel has a free shuttle to a station to New York. My questions on this are, would it be an easy drive to Giants Stadium? Its only 2 miles, but then again its still the NYC area so 2 miles is never easy.
I know it wont be simple, but how difficult will it be to get from Secaucus transfer station to the Bronx? Would it be Secaucus-NY Penn-Yankee Stadium, or am I missing something?
So basically, would there be too much hassle involved with this plan? Or am I good to go?

Thanks for the help!

I would suggest driving to GS, public transportation to the Swamp, on RBNY gameday at least, is pretty sparse. The only down side of driving is paying for parking, never fun, but at least you don't have to worry about missing some of the match or getting stranded in the Swamp!

You have 2 options once you get to NY Penn. You could take the uptown A train to Columbus Cicle and tranfer to the uptown D train to the stadium or walk a few blocks east from NY Penn to Grand Central station and catch the uptown 4 train to the stadium. Either option shouldn't take you longer than 30-45 minutes to get to the stadium from NY Penn.

1) Yes, very easy drive from Secaucus to Giants Stadium.

2) Secaucus - NY Penn -> some subway hopping - > Yankee Stadium

The subway hopping is the tricky part. You need to get to the 4 train, and Penn Station isn't really anywhere close. But if you pay close attention to the subway maps or ask a local, it's doable (and some tourists enjoy the subway hopping as part of the local charm.)

Good luck.

If you are dropped off at Penn Station, you take the 1,2,3 up to Times Square, one stop, take the shuttle over to GST and then take the 4 up. Very easy. If you are dropped off at The Port Authority, there is a tunnel which takes you over to Times Square, or you can walk above ground. Then you do the shuttle and the 4 train.

The 2 miles over to GS from the hotel is normally a piece of cake, taking no more than 15 minutes.

Take it from someone who takes the D train all the time, it's way faster than the 4.

Also, if you're in Penn Station, taking the S to another subway line is really a fool's errand.

The easiest thing to do is this:

Take the 1, uptown, 3 stops. (sounds like a lot, but it's a <10 minute ride). Get off at 59th street. Go downstairs, get on the D, take it 4 stops to Yankee stadium (about 20 minutes).

It' so easy, it's not even funny. Walking east to the 4, taking the S to the 4, or even walking over to 8th ave to catch the A/C to 59th isn't really worth your time. The 1 train is pretty darn frequent.

If you don't want to switch trains at all, get out of Penn Station at the 32nd street & 7th ave exit. Walk east 1 block to Herald Sq, and you can get the D there. From there, it's 8 stops to Yankee stadium, or about 30 minutes.

It's uber simple.

Ok my new question is:
How hard, and expensive, would parking be at or near a train station that goes to NY?
I figured it might just be easier to park there and that way I can get to the soccer game quicker as I can avoid a shuttle/cab back to the hotel.
Thanks.

Here is the link to the public transportation web page. The bus might actually be easier.

I would check with the hotel to find out how far away the stations or bus stops are

Just to let you know, you are less than 10 miles from Manhattan.

Just park your car in Newark and take the train into the City. It runs every 10 minutes or so.

Then, when the Yankee game is over, just to straight back to your hotel. No worries about having to pick up your car in Newark, it won't be there anyway. :D

There's a rather large and new train station in Secaucus with the fancy name of Secaucus Junction. If you part there, take the train in and out of the city, and jump in car to head to Giants Stadium, you'd be looking at all of about 10 miles of driving (both ways totalled.) Seriously, map it all out on Google and/or Map Quest (see if you can get a few alternate routes.)

MLS fan from California and strangely enough, hope to see 2 RBNY games back to back.. The Becks game and then head down to see NY_DC on the Wed night game before flying back to the coast.- I believe August 18 & 22..
-
Why no single game sales for the Becks game on ticketbastard? Are they holding the Becks game for season ticket packages?
-
Is there a date to go on sale.?. I tried calling the RBNY office, left a message for a sale rep and haven't got a call back yet...
-
Based on your local knowledge, will they sell 40-80k for this game?

Wow, good plan, btw, sounds like a great way to spend a vacation ;-)
It COULD sell 40k, maybe 60k. I'd be shocked to see 70-80k. As far as tickets going on sale I have no idea, tickets for the Gold Cup went on sale in late March for season ticket holders, so maybe we'll be hearing something soon.
