Time to start a new thread for MLS Phoenix!

Please take a look at the article in today's Arizona Republic:

Arizona Republic - MLS Seeks Stadium Site (http://www.azcentral.com/sports/azetc/articles/0308mlssoccer0308.html)

The momentum is building, however, we have a lot of hard work to do in many areas. Please take a look at "MLS Phoenix Rising"'s website (Link below)and become a member...

Together, we can make this happen if we can rally together as a community!

I tried to buy a few tickets online and couldn't. They had everything all screwed up. I called Draksin a few days before the match to ask what was going on and he had no idea.
Their is a market in the Phoenix metro. He dropped the ball but takes none of the blame.

Thanks MAVSFAN! We enjoyed having FC Dallas out a few weeks ago! You have a class team and we appreciated their willingness to come to Phoenix to play an exhibition against Columbus!

All the best to you and your team this season!

Thanks Fez! Our efforts to make this happen are serious and well intended!

It is going to take our community as a whole to support it however... The financial commitment to a potential owner is huge. However, if we can all get together and grow our group into the thousands, we will leave them with little doubt that professional soccer will work here.

So far, the response has been great! We are approaching 300 commitments from local people to join "MLS Phoenix Rising" in less than a weeks time. We have to keep the momentum going, so any help you can provide by spreading the word would be very much appreciated!

This is not a forum to express negative things about Draksin. Give the guy some credit, he was responsible for bringing two MLS teams to Phoenix for exhibition games. Sure, the promotion of it could have been better, but Draksin worked his butt off to make this happen. The soccer community of the valley owes Draksin for getting this started.

Now it is up to us, I encourage you to join our group and get out there and promote it to your friends in soccer. Keeping things positive will go a long way to make this happen!;)

Point taken.
Maybe I should have added that he did call me a few times to make sure everything was ok and put me through to someone to order my tickets on the phone.

How about 'The best pitch and the ONLY football in Arizona?' But I digress.

It would be very nice to have our own MLS club. The trek to Salt Lake or L.A. is becoming tiresome, especially when I don't particularly care for any of those teams.
I like the traditional style of Phoenix F.C., but what are some other alternatives? Perhaps, F.C. Phoenician, Athletico Phoenix, TSV 1868 Phoenix, etc. What do you guys think?

Hey I really like TSV 1868 Phoenix. That is the most orignal I have heard yet. Plus, no one needs to be reminded how hot it is.

There's another thread in this forum for discussing team names, go check it out and post your suggestions there. By the way, what would TSV stand for?

I am not exactly sure either. It was Aavius's suggestion. I did a search for the name and found something interesting.

I noticed in the article it says "A privately funded $150 million stadium." The key word is PRIVATE. If this has no out of pocket cost for a city other than infrastructure it has to be done. Knock down the colisium or put it in Mesa at Riverview, even 32nd and the 202 would work. Is it really privately funded????

Privately funded has to be the key. No city will put up a vast amount of money for this project. Investors must fund the stadium. The best thing a city could do is to allow a VERY cheap land lease, like a dollar a year type deal, to a site located in the city.
