Albion + England
15 May 2003, 09:19 AM
Time for some trumpet blowing, i heard that 9 out of 20 Premership clubs fans voted the Albion as having the best support in the League. I know the Geordies were particularly impressed and for them to say we were the best is a real compliment, the best away support i saw this seaon at The Hawthorns came from Man Utd and of course the Geordies.

I would say the best fans are geordies BUT what are best fans? Are they the loudest? The most loyal (Sunderland and the loylest i would say, relegated and still getting 39,000 every home game)

WBA were also one of the loudest sides to come to Elland Road this season as well. Really a shame that they didn't have a board that wanted to give the manager money so they could stay in the premiership. i'll miss them at least.

I went to every Leeds match in the league this season, apart from Soton at Elland Road (out of the country). This is what i remember from this season... (away = at elland road)

Arsenal:
Home: Very quiet. This might have been because they saw the title slipping completely away from their grasp though
Away: They weren't especially loud, but they were having a grand old time. Beat us 4-1 and it was probably the best football i have seen in my life

Aston Villa:
Home: Quite dead. the match was one of the most boring i have ever seen though. I don't think we were loud at all either
Away: It was the last day of the season, so their fans were out to have a good time. we won 3-1, but their fans were having a great time. Good singing..... maybe they were just happy to get out of Birmingham for a bit though....

Birmingham City:
Home: At home they were very loud as well. This helped their side to a "shock" (it was then...) victory over us. Should be fun to goto next season. One of the best atmospheres if i remember right
Away: I honestly can't remember.... i know the score was 2-0 to Leeds though.

Blackburn:
Home: quiet
Away: quiet -- nothing really special to say about them

Bolton:
Home: I'm sure it was different at the end of the season, but we really shut them up with a 3-0 win
Away: They had a great time. Decent amount of singing... they won 4-2 as well

Charlton:
Home: Very quiet.... it was 3-1 at the half, and 6-1 after 90. Their fans did applaud Harry Kewell's goal, and then the Leeds team afterwords. I've always liked Charlton fans
Away: A great day for them (like most teams that came to Elland Road) they won 2-1 with an injury time goal. I can't remember anything that made their fans stand out.... i guess they couldn't have been too bad then... (not anything special though)

Chelsea:
Home: quiet until the 87'th min when they finall took the lead after being down 1-0 and 2-1. They did wake up after being treated to a magic overhead kick from Gudjohnsen
Away: It was a cold december night, and if it wasn't for the fact that they weren't celebrating the Leeds goals, i wouldn't have known they were there!

Everton:
Home: again, they beat us, but were very quiet.
Away: they did make a fair bit of noise. Most of it after Rooney came on as a sub... he the scored the only goal of the game

Fulham:
Home: Pathetic
Away: More Pathetic

Liverpool:
Home: "3-1, and you still won't sing" was the song of the afternoon. I haven't heard such silence since going to Old Trafford!
Away: They always seen to make a better account of themselves away. They got into it and have a good sound, won 1-0 as well

Man City:
Home: Again, not really loud, but they did beat us....
Away: They were in good voice for the first match of the season, but then we showed them how to sing and play football.... 3-0 win.

Man U:
Home: haha, don't make me laugh! If it wasn't for the away supporters, Old Trafford would be just as loud on matchdays as it is on a tuesday morning when they turn on the sprinklers.
Away: They said "united" a few times. Then they got beat.

Middlesbrough:
Home: While not being very good, They are a fun bunch of people... must be all the fumes they breathe on a daily basis
Away: They were quite loud this year, and then beat us 3-2

Newcastle:
Home: I think we shut them up pretty well. We outsung them the entire match, and then won 2-0
Away: They got their revenge. They were louder this time, and gave us a thrashing on the pitch

Southampton:
Home: I think these guys even have WBA beat. Both seasons i've been to St. Marys. I think they have the best singing fans in the premiership now.

Sunderland:
Home: Sprits were low for them. Even us, who were crap at the time, won 2-1. Milner scored a goal making him the youngest ever premiership goal scorer.
Away: They weren't too bad, actually i remember them being kinda loud... just their usually FTM songs though.

Spurs:
Home: dreadful. All they do now is chant "Keano" (not just against us)... I'm glad for that.. .they finally have a song to sing. All they do is complain. Worst fans in the league by far
Away: crap. typical spurs performance from them

WBA:
Home: Very loud for the 90 min. You could see how much being in the premiership meant to the players and fans. both gave it their all for 90 min. On the pitch, Leeds won 3-1.... in singing.... WBA comprehensively won... and were were loud as well!
Away: Again, what good support... they knew they were going to go down, but still they sung their hearts out. I hope they can make it back up next season. that would be great

West Ham:
Home: We beat them 4-3.... they were quiet until it was 4-3 (it was 4-1). They might have been louder if we weren't handing them a thrashing for most of the match. Then again, they were crap last season as well
Away: More crap... this time we only won 1-0 though.

I hope i've remembered everything right.. it has been a long season.... I'm very glad it is over.

Well leaving the criticism of Spurs to one side. I thought that Blackburn were piss poor. When I went to see them against Arsenal, half the stand were shouting "************!ng frog" at Gio van Bronckhorst.

I know this is a Premiership board but I have to push for Galatasary fans I watched them in the Champions League on ESPN here in the States and these fans are unbelieveable the stadium rocked the entire match singing and jumping up and down, the commentators also said most of them arrived at the stadium 7 hours before kickoff and were singing then, incredible.

Yeah, but it's when they let in a goal and start to lose that their true colours emerge. They go as quiet as Highbury. Rubbish

I have to say that I've been impressed by Newcastle fans at St James'. Sunderland away too. Premiership teams will be surprised next season when Pompey come visit. They make a serious racket - but the chimes get annoying.

How do you possibly manage to go to every game, and how much does it cost you????

Hes probably got a season ticket. Its not that uncommon. I used to have season tickets to the Phoenix Suns, only it was only for home games.
