With apologies if this is old news, but I don't see it posted anywhere here. Comcast and Disney have signed a longterm agreement involving various Disney channels and including OnDemand services. But the main thing for BigSoccer users is that apparently Comcast will be adding ESPN Deportes at long last. A Google search will bring up many articles ... here's one:

It'd be nice if it started a chain reaction.
Comcast gets ESPN Deportes. Competing providers in the same market feel the heat, then sign their own deals with ESPN Deportes. Other markets where those cable companies are add ESPN Deportes and even more cable companies feel the heat.
I can dream, can't I?

Time Warner and DirecTV are still holding out.
I anticipate those two to hold out, quite possibly until the 2009 World Baseball Classic.
FOX Sports en Espanol should have the last right of refusal to match any offer from ESPN Deportes for the US TV rights to the 2008 Caribbean Baseball Series.
The only Mexican soccer matches on ESPN Deportes during the 2006-2007 season are same-day-delay re-air of a match from Azteca America each weekend during the regular season. That's not anywhere close to being a "must have" product for Mexican-American TV viewers.

We are now getting messages on Comcast set-top boxes informing that Deportes will soon be added in the same channel range as the 18 or so existing Spanish language channels (right next to Gol TV, which is the last of the 18).
I would love it if Deportes is added to the sports tier-- just like Gol TV. If not, one would have to outlay for the much more expensive Spanish language tier in order to get Deportes (which would also get you FSE, definitely not a must-have if you already have FSC).

Oliver is reporting on Soccertv.com and in the ESPN Deportes-Comcast thread that ESPN DEportes thread that DirecTV is about to add ESPN Deportes. I figured I'd start another thread because those of us with DirecTV shouldn't hijack that other thread and because Oliver is reporting that ESPN Deportes is only going to be added to a Spanish pack ($19.99 per month)and Para Todos. While I want the channel, I don't want it at $19.99 per month. I have already sent DirecTV an email through their Web site requesting that they add it to the Sports Pack since it is, after all, a sports station. I hope all other DirecTV subscribers will do the same. Take care.

They are a day late and a dollar short..
Very happy customer of Setanta.
Needless to say if they would offer Serie A and La Liga games, i would be more than happy to subscribe...

Yes, 2001.
DirecTV used to carry ESPN Deportes when it's a free channel. That's the ESPN Deportes that only went live on Sunday for Sunday Nite baseball and Sunday Nite football en espanol.
Once ESPN Deportes went full-time and carried multiple CL games, DirecTV balked because the channel started asking for money. That was around 2003 or 2004...

I remember that it was on for a period of time (6 hours or so) on the weekend, but I think that the guys here made it seem that the channel was coming back to DirecTV this April, and me thinks it's a hoax :)

Agreed. I mean, it's great that ESPN Deportes has CL matches but by April most of the games will be on Setanta and ESPN2, so having ESPN Deportes right away is not on my agenda. Now, if they add the channel to the Sports Pak, at $12 a month, now that is something I can stomach...

I totally agree. By the time we get to the final rounds of the CL, ESPN Deportes only has two games not available elsewhere (Roma-Lyon and Valencia_Inter). That's why I am saying that DirecTV subscribers who read or participate in this forum should send an email requesting that the station be added to the sports pack. Setanta is a much better channel. I see no reason to pay another $19 to get ESPN Deportes but I also think ESPN Deportes, which is an all sports channel, should be part of the sports pack. It can't hurt to hit them with as many emails as we can and see what happens. 2 minutes of your time to do this. We probably won't get it, but it's worth a shot. Take care.
