if you think you know the greatest australian footballer, then post what you think. johnny warren and harry kewell are outstanding ledgends who represented australia in a patriotic term. scott chipperfield is a unsighted talent and if he was spotted by a good scout.

Have you tried the Australia forum? You'll get more responces there.
My vote goes to Craig Johnston. He didn't play for Australia but he won lots of trophies at Liverpool and he was a gifted right-winger.

Well, all i can say is it's such a pity Harry Kewell has been through so many injuries. If he hadn't, he'd undoubtably be the greatest. He is so naturally talented. Hope he can come back from this latest setback.....:(

yes, he is a natural left winger but he is still not the greatest even without his injuries.
but if you say in Australia, yes, he could become a legend if he has spent more time on the pitch.

I have to agree with this, even if he isn't yet he's perfectly on track.

The bloke who stood tall all 06 WC.
Took a dive and a paranoid ref to get passed him.

Pure inspiration to watch when playing for Australia definitely Muscat!! Remember a time he poked a Uraguayan player in the eye to slow him down when they lost 3-0 at the qualifier for Korea/Japan Hard at the ball, pasionate wore the colours with pride. Dirtiest yes but not the greatest however.
Couple of Contenders cut short to injuries: Kewell, Okon
Bosnich, could have been. Less said the better. What a waste.
Zelic was ever reliable at club level. Not quite.
Cahill, Neil and Emerton are on the way. Not quite yet.
Viduka is good at club. Never really scored enough goals at inter level.
My money goes on Craig Moore. Strong at the back, ever present. Cool under pressure (see penalty against Croatia WC06). Had a career at Europe for about 12 odd seasons (??? Rangers, Palace, Newcastle I think).

liverpool.IIRC Craig Johnston (aka Roo) knocked back the chance of a call-up to the AUS NT (when he became a big player in England) because he felt he'd been ignored previously. Also the English disease (ie English managers wanting their players not to play for their national team) had already started with him. He has been famously (infamously?) quoted as saying at the time of his call-up: "Playing Soccer for Australia is the equivalent of Surfing for England".
IMO he shouldn't be considered eligible in this thread, unless it's retitled "Australia's greatest player never to play for his country".
