Does anyone know where I can find information on a club that used to play in Aberdeen during the early 1900s. The club was Waterloo FC and my great-grandfather was a goalkeeper at the club. My grandparents said that the club was probably an amateur club.

In two of the squad photos (1919/1920 and 1920/1921) that I have, there are 3 trophies on display and one appears to be fairly special.

Is there an organization in Aberdeen that would have a record of the club or the at least the trophies or should I ask the Scottish FA for information?\

Thanks

According to this list:

The only senior side named Waterloo played in Hurlet, Ayrshire.

However, there was a Junior side (Junior in Scotland not meaning youth, but rather just to differentiate it from the Senior game; Juniors are also adult players) named Waterloo:

As you can see it only ran from 1929 to 1930, insofar as the records indicate.

If this isn't the same one, or it was an amateur side for most of its history and only briefly made the step up to the Juniors (this is quite common), before and possibly after 1929/1930 it probably just played locally or under the auspices of the Aberdeenshire FA. Said organisation is still going (almost all the old county associations are still going, if only nominally or for the benefit of amateur members, as is the case in Renfrewshire), and here is some contact info:

That info is current as of this year. The email address may be able to put you in touch with someone who has access to the league archives.

Failing that, the site I linked to is run by Brian McColl, who has all sorts of historic knowledge at his disposal, and he can also put you in touch with other Scottish football historians.

So, basically it looks like it was an amateur side that made the step up, but faded soon after.

I hope this helps. Let me know how the search goes; I'd be very interested in finding out.

Thank you for the help. I will send out an email in the morning. Here are two pictures of the club (I scanned them in from two post cards):

I figured that I would bump this thread since I haven't made any progress with finding information on the club.

I was in Scotland about 3 weeks and went to Hampden and the museum. I didn't have the actual postcards with me since it was raining and I didn't want them to be damaged while we were walking around outside (in retrospect I feel pretty dumb), but I went to the reference desk and showed them the scanned pictures. I've tried to email the museum and tell them that I have rescanned the pictures and isolated the trophies in the pictures to see if they could be identified, but I haven't gotten any response. Here are the new scans.

Did you try getting in touch with Brian McColl? (There's a link to his website further up the page.) Even if the officials are unable to help, the enthusiasts may be more accessible.

I thought that I responded to this post, but I guess I didn't.

I did contact Brian McColl and he posted the team photos and close up pictures of the trophies on his website and asked anyone who had information on them to contact him.

I just discovered the History section of the BigSoccer forums and I will post the team photos and a link to this thread there.
