Mild, very mild, headbutt by D'Alessandro on Messi in the Barca v. Zaragoza game today...Messi goes to the turf and D'Alessandro is red carded (Messi with a yellow).

Curious as to whether this will have any effect on the Argentina squad, if D'Alessandro ever gets called up again. I must admit that I missed the moment prior to the headbutt, but I can not imagine a valid reason for any one to headbutt Messi.

I thought it was an comparison thread and that must be the most funny thread ever :p

Messi also got in a fight in Rosario a couple of weeks ago so he might not be that innocent.

P.S. Messi in a fight must be hillarious as well

It was dissapointing to see Messi react the way he did, fair enough that D'Alessandro got sent off because his head butt (however hard it was) was a red card offence. But there was no need for the theatrics from Messi.

In the long term I don't think it matters as I really can't see D'Alessandro getting back into the Argentine squad especially with the talent they have available in midfield and lets face it Messi is far, far more important to the NT than D'Alessandro.

Pekerman, everyone does it (diving/play acting/cheating whetever you want to call it), the Germans, the Spanish, the Italians, the English (contrary to what the British media like to claim) even the saintly Brazillians :D have been known to do it (does anyone remember Rivaldo going down clutching his face in the 2006 world cup, when a Turkish player had kicked a ball at him which clearly hit him on his leg).

Messi overreacting, but i want him to continue it in some cases. In his 1st season, he never ever dived, even when someone would try to murder him, he was always on his feet(remember, Del Horno trying to break his leg, if it was another player, they would have rolled atleast 50 times on the ground, but Messi didn't). That is why i want him to overreact sometimes, so that the opponent don't dare to break his leg and take him off the game for several months.

Your point being?

I think he meant to say that Robben looks like Sonny Corleone (Michael's brother in the Godfather).

Messi is around Ronaldinho too much!

I dont want to see such a great player like Messi diving, he is going to keep doing it more often as he gets older, but I would prefer he didnt.

Sadly theatrics are required in order for a player to get any kind of favoring from a Ref.

Did Messi overreact, damn right he did

Was D'Alessandro wrong, well the tape proves it

Should D'Alessandro ever get a call back from Basile, in my opinion, yes why not, he could fit into the list of 22, he should even be an option for la Copa America.

finally Messi shows some huevos, good on him. I am of the opinion that play-acting in the right situations is fine and if a player uses it sparingly it is in fact tactical and part of the game. To those so righteous out there give me a break would you??? Or would you want Diego to not have scored that infamous goal??????

I cannot say I would have. I cannot applaud it. Idk...diving may be necessary sometimes, but to actively support something we know is immoral, I can't support "infamous goals".

Personally speaking, I love Diego's "infamous" goal. :p

Personally speaking, I love Diego's "infamous" goal.

It gets lovelier every passing day, especially as the Brits continue to struggle in World Cups.
