Its a knuckleball, were it doesnt spin that much and it is amazing if you can pull it off....

I had on about 20-30yrds out, I hit it square on the ball, It started to move left alittle and then went srtaight up then diped back down right under the pole... you should have seen my teamates face , he thought I was gonna hit the person that was in the back watching...

The funny thing is, I wear two shoes, preds & pumas with the power frame.. I can hit knuckles all day long with the pumas, with the preds its different

but yea, you just have to hit the ball as square on as u can with alot of power and it will dance :D

set up the ball so that you are striking it dead center on the hole for the air pump.

You kick with your laces or with the side of the foot??

you kick with your laces, not the side.. you dont have to strike it on the hole were to pump the ball, any were on the wall works, well for me it does, you just have to strike it dead center/square on the ball with power...

Actually, I always do it with the side of my toe. And I am one of the best free kickers in my school. I sometimes use my laces but I dont feel the ball being sturck right when I do that. when I do it with the side of my toe, it curse and always goes to the goal. when it is a very far free kick, I go with the laces and sometimes when I feel lucky, I use the tip. I never use my out step. My Free kicks somehow never go right. I have to practice this over the summer before high school varsity try outs.

Well this is just me. :p

If you look at the last take on the first video you can see how he sets up to strike the ball in slow motion. It looked to me like he has his planted left foot advanced so that the toes are actually in front of the ball and then he appears to lean back by moving his left knee at the last instant and then strikes the ball with the inside of his right instep. He makes it look so easy!

Well I'm kind of a self proclaimed pro at these shots lol:rolleyes: and I think what rca2 said is true but also it is something to do with his legs followthrough. You can see after he strikes it in the first one his right leg zips off to the left. You also need a well pumped ball. Well, I think that has something to do with it and it works for me :p

Obviously this is a very hard way to hit a freekick. If you notice, most of the time he hits them he screws up and only on occasion does he hit a good one. But from what I notice, he keeps his shooting leg very straight and doesn't bend his knee very much, and like others have said he hits the ball in the dead center.

Yes, C. Ronaldo basically uses the "if it goes on goal we're going to get at least a rebound" strategy that has worked well.... even if a goal-chance only comes around 1/4 of the time that's a pretty good return on investment. You'll notice now that he's more likely to blast it straight at the keeper, low if he gets the chance than trying to knuckle it in high, where the shot has a good chance of just harmlessly floating high.

as for his technique, you can see that he's positioning his body and his kicking foot so that basically he is kicking a volley, but while the ball is on the ground. He can pull this off because as you can see by any television footage or photographs, he has RIDICULOUSLY muscular strong legs, and likely hig feet as well. It's how he runs so fast, and it's how he kicks so hard.

The secrets to hitting a knuckle shot are hitting the ball exactly on center and following absolutely straight through. You must strike the ball exactly on the opposite side of the direction you want it to go in. Also, your kicking foot must follow through pretty much exactly straight in that same direction. Keep your head down, make sure your foot is completely stiff and locked out (important) and follow straight through by hopping forward and landing on your kicking foot. I hit it way up high on the top of the bony ridge on the top of my foot when doing this.

Knuckles are great for fooling the crap out of a keeper, but you never know which way they will tail off at the very end - sometimes they tail up, sometimes they just die and fall, sometimes they go straight. But nothing freaks a keeper out like a non spinning ball headed for the low far post. :-)

He doesn't hit the ball with his laces in the top video. He hits it with the side.

I'd rather learn to kick them like Roberto Carlos than C. Ronaldo....

If you hit the ball as hard as you can and make sure u add enough top spin to make it dip then u can take freekicks like ronaldo.

Juninho, on the other hand, scores from the same distance and has a lot more technique.

Carlos' technique there seems plenty more applicable to a long distance kick.

I don't know about you guys but I think a free like this would fool the goalie alot more times than a knuckle ball :P

Believe it or not...

and I had a hard time myself except that I saw it happen...

Middle school girls game...blowout...leading team moved their best player to play fullback and she struck a rolling ball and got the exact same effect.

I couldn't believe my eyes as I saw the ball knuckle around and it of course handcuffed the keeper and went into the net from about 35 yards out.

Can anyone tell me why I turn into a total dork when taking FKs. I'm pretty good at shooting at full-speed (about a foot off the ground w/o any spin), so our capt. wants me to take FKs. But every time I free kick the ball, it either just rolls along the ground without any power or lift or it flies about 20 yds and has so much backspin that it just floats there for the opposing keeper.

Does anyone have any tips?
