Hi I am currently playing center midfield for my club, and although i feel I am playing well and know quite a bit about the position it is always good to get feedback. So I was wondering what everyone else feels about the position. I aspire to be the all action midfielder like Roy Keane, Steven Gerrard or Paul Scholes. Cheers.

Depends on whether you are holding or attacking. Holding, like R Keane, you basically play in the hole in front of your center-back. Watch how Hargreaves does it he's a good example. It's visa versa for the attacking mid position. You play in the space behind the forwards Thats why Scholes scores so often as he arrives late in the space behind the forwards. Know one realizes the space is there and that he is coming. Short passing skills are important and also being able to play the ball into space from the midfield for the forwards to run on to ala Becks. Stamina is important because that position is the "engine room". I personaly love to play attacking mid like Scholes. Watch him play, his passing is exceptional and he makes it look so easy. He also tackles hard and can shoot with venom. Playing 4,3,3 is a little different cause you are on your own in the middle and have to work even harder!

I'd disagree with that to a certain extent. I mean yes united do play with Carrick a lot deeper, but other teams like united back when Scholes and Keane played together, Keane never played as deep as Carrick. They both covered for each other. If Scholesy was in position and driving forward, Keane wouldn't push to far ahead, and vice versa. Even nowadays Scholes comes deep and Carrick pushes forward so it depends on the situation. But what i was more asking about was positional play, helping close down gaps that sort of thing. By the way I am not at all having a go at your point. I agree with it to an extent.
