Scirea, Antognoni and Rivera were very graceful. They didn't need to trick their opponenents. The ball was glued to their feet and they could dribble smoothly and neatly. Beckenbauer and Platini are the only non-Italians that spring to mind now.
Henry i think can be added

Henry i think can be addedHe relies too much on pace. The guys I listed didn't depend too much on pace like Henry does.
Michael Laudrup was a graceful player. Watch his goal for Denmark against Uruguay at the 1986 World Cup. The picture quality is a bit grainy.

This goal for Juve is pretty good. It was in the 1985 Intercontinental Cup Final.

He just glides. I think Henry deserves a mention though. His running style looks effortless.

1. Beckenbauer - Moved gracefully and was quicker than he looked.
2. Platini - Game based on touch, floated from midfield to attack gracefully.
3. Pele - Great touches and moves. Always in control.
4. Maradona - Basically the most skillfull player ever.
5. Roger Milla - Privledge to watch him before 1990 when he became recognized all over the world.
5. Molby - Fat guy who was also elegant
6. Falcao - Great touches
7. Socrates - Also great touches.

Roberto Baggio. Simply graceful and elegant. *sigh*
Zidane is poetic to watch also (minus his occasional temper).
Henry is talented but he dived a many times in the WC so I wouldn't put him in an "elegant" list.

I thought I was going to be the first to mention Nesta until Spartak came through. He never looks like he has to exert himself. Speaking in massively general terms, I'm usually more taken by classy defenders/deep midfielders than by classy forwards - maybe it's just a reaction to those who see defenders as nothing more than destroyers. That said, Dennis Bergkamp practically defines smooth, intelligent play.
To throw out another name that I haven't seen yet, 'elegant' is a word that pops into my mind every time I see Xabi Alonso play.
Call me biased, but for my money Paul McGrath has every right to be named on a list of supremely elegant defenders.

Call me biased, but for my money Paul McGrath has every right to be named on a list of supremely elegant defenders. He was one of the best defenders to have played in the English First Division/EPL. What's remarkable is that he had dodgy knees. When he was at Villa, he didn't need to train!
I'm just glad that you didn't mention Gary Breen again.

Well, he's better than Nesta, but just not as elegant ;)

Oops i did'nt finish my message. Rivaldo is the most brilliant, exciting, incredible, elegant and under-rated footballer ever to set foot on this planet.
He possessed everything...dribbling, scoring ability from anywhere on the pitch, pinpoint crossess and passes. He was the significant factor for Brazil to be crowned world champs. Not only did he score the goals but he set them up notebly for the goofy geek ronaldo. People keep on mentioning the "play-acting" against Turkey hey cmon guys grow up ..ONE mistake have made you forget his sheer ability with the football.
The no. of times he's saved Barca single handedly is unbelivable . The guy has proved more recently in Greece that he is still a great because he is a natural talent who could out play today's so called "elegant players" when he's 50
ps. The only player who gives me orgasms when he's playing. The true emperor of the no. 10 shirt.

i thnk that people dont say Ronaldinho cus he had been "over hyped" (not in my opinion) but if we are talking about grace, it is criminal to not mention him, the 2002 WC come to mind, when he set up rivaldo for that goal against England. thats just one example, and this year he beat 5 defenders in a run it was didnt score but it was beautiful to watch. if i can find the clip i will put it on.
on that note i think Rivaldo is way more graceful than many players on this list, ( like it or not martinho) If the subject is grace than he has to be there, if it was clas than different story.
I am shocked that no on said ROMARIO or BEBETO, both were incredible in there primes.
And we cannot forget
Teofilo Cubillas
Cesar Cueto
Juan Carlos Oblitas
Carlos Valderrama
Hugo Sanchez
Diego Maradona
Roberto Baggio
and many more
BTW guys you HAVE to check out Cueto's clips on youtube please do your selves the favor

to me, the most elegant players are as follows
zizou: he has great touch, and I think there is a certain finnese in his touch compared to players like cristiano ronaldo and such.
Ronaldo (brazil): because I think his straightforward finishing is very elegant. the way in which he passes the ball around the goalie and into the net is very beautiful imo. ALso , I think the way he dribbles and cuts at such high speeds is also elegant.
George best: I think he also had a great touch, and is also super fast. to me, the combination of the two is very elegant.
henry: i htink he has a combination of zizou and ronaldos skills, he has a very elegant touch, and a very elegant finish.
pele: he also had a great touch.
I don't think ronaldinho, cristiano ronaldo, messi, beckenbauer, maradona and other great players are "elegant," because I don't htink they have an elegant touch to them, they don't radiate excellence. they are more robust.

Are you being serious? Maradona and beckenbauer didn't radiate exellence? Beckenbauer defined exellence. Maradona embodied exellence. What, in heavens name, do you mean by robust?
