There have been so many suggestions, I thought a poll would be good.
Just to see which way people are leaning.

Like I have said previously, i think using SC or AC (not FC though, the game is called soccer here people) and then letting the fans pick a nickname(The Black Knight Always Triumphs!) is probably the best way to go.

This is a very comprehensive list, good job.

I could have voted for either the Knights, the Shamrock or Select. But I am sold on the colors being green and white or green/yellow.

You took the words out of my mouth.

Sport Billy,

You forgot to include Stars, the name of the NASL team from the 60's and 70s.

I think it merits consideration as a lot of us agree there should be some historical aspect to the name.

I suggested other, and yes, it was Chivalry. It could be grouped with Knights and Crusaders, but, ya know, I want to be original.

It looks like the Knights/Crusaders is in the lead. I like Knights and I also like Select. But, Knight is an English word, don't we want a French Word? What about Legion de St. Louis or St. Louis Legion, of if we must St. Louis Legionnaire (although this would be a better name for the fans - the Legionnaires)? This would be the same idea, but with a French word, and it would fit with some that were suggesting Arsenal (before Colorado took it). Plus, could still use the St. Louis Statute in the logo as some are suggesting in the fantastic forum on the team name/jersey. Also, the symbol of the French Foreign Legion would make a nice centerpiece for the St. Louis Fleur de Leis.

We could take this a step further and think about different cultural groups/classes in France (legion would represent the French Military). Lucky us, we already have a team representing another French class, the religious class in the Cardinals. (Cardinal is the word for the Catholic leaders directly under the Pope - yes, and also the name of a local red bird).

So, then sticking with this we would need a name for the women's team along the same lines. It is important to think about the women's name because since Cooper is likely to own both, he will probably want names that relate. So, my suggestion for the women's name would be one that represents French Artists ... Romantique de St. Louis or St. Louis Romantique. Of course, the fans would be the Romantics.

Anyway, just some French thoughts. Good poll.

Voted for Knights, but I wouldn't be opposed St. Louis Saints.

For colors, Black would be great for the nickname "black knights." But green with a light blue trim would look nice, and unused in the league as well.

There's a color combo I haven't thought of - I'll try to mock something up later in the other post.

I didn't realize Knights was the clear leader in the Team Name Colors thread, but this shows it might be so. :)

But green with a light blue trim would look nice, and unused in the league as well.

I played around with green and different shades of blue for a while and I didn't think any of them looked good so I moved on.

Green/White, clean and simple, is my preferred color choice right now. Second would be Green/Yellow.

Question: would refering to the the team as the 'Greenies' be PC?
2nd Question: does anyone care? ;)

St. Louis Legion, I like it. Any reference to the French Foreign Legion flies high in my book.

I asked some non-soccer people at work what they thought about names like "Olympic St. Louis," "1904 St. Louis," or "AC St. Louis." These European style names had a much more negative effect than I realized - they pretty much looked at me like I was crazy. "St. Louis Rovers" was the name that seemed to get the best response.

Here's an idea: "St. Louis Templars," or "Templaric St. Louis."

I thought about Templars too, that's where I got the idea for my new crest and uniform design in the other thread. But, I think that name may have too strong of a religious overtone and since the Templars were knights, just using Knights would be simpler.

My thoughts exactly - I was wondering what kind of welcome The Templars would receive in our first away game in Salt Lake City.

Wow, lots of votes for European letters. I have to say I agree that this would be a terrible way to attrack casual fans. Fans who played soccer through elementary school/ high school but don't follow Europe. They would look at the name and just go "huh?"

For example, I was telling my brother-in-law STL was bidding for an MLS team and he said "why, we already have the Steamers." The Steamers! We then got into a discussion about how indoor soccer sucks more than Arena league football, until I remembered the Steamers folded this year. Point is, we need to baby the casual fans. Vote non-European.

This eliminates approx. 5 options.

"Soccer" is of English origin, so that's out. You should use KC, for "kickball club". Nobody in England uses that, so it's okay for Americans to use.

I get the joke, but of course a team in St. Louis would never have KC in it's name. That will happen the day that a team from Omaha is called the Sooners.;)

has any suggested name incorporated Mid-America, such as St. Louis Mid-Americans, or Mid-American Soccer Club of St. Louis

Listening to local KMOX radio and they always say "it is 3 o'clock in Mid-America" and I thought that would not be a half bad name especially if the stadium ends up in Collinsville.

St. louis is mid america and represents what most folks consider the midwest, or middle america.

Just a thought.
