It really irritates me when I see things like this... I just saw a poll on a sport website (will post link when I find it again, think it was some eurosport or sporteuro or something) and they had a poll:
Who's the best defender in the world?
Fabio Cannavaro
Rio Ferdinand
Cafu
Gianluca Zambrotta
John Terry
Ricardo Carvalho
Lillian Thuran
Who do you think got voted 67% of the votes? Ferdinand, yes Rio Ferdinand with 67% of the votes.

Just the inclusions are laughable. Zambrotta and Cafu defend? Thuram is still alive? Carvalho?

Rio is an excellent defender, has the right height, excellent pace, strong header of the ball and can do what quite a few so called 'top defenders' can't - actually pass the ball out of trouble.
Occasionally he'll go 'walkabout' at the back and can let his temper get the better of him at times too.
Still though, top class defender.
He's just not as good as Terry though, end of!

well said. I would not moan that much if Rio was a Chelsea player.

i can believe it. There are ton of MANU supporters. Still, as Clan said, Ferdinand is a top class defender.

Cafu is the only joke there. Zambrotta's problem at Barca is precisely the fact that he defends. He's the only Barca fullback that thinks defense first, which doesn't fit in well with their philosophy. He'd have been the perfect addition to our squad, not Barca's.

What has Ricky done to you? Seriously? What is your problem with him?

Has anybody here heard of Nesta?
For me, he's probably the best in the world today although john may probably be a better defender later on in his carrier.

yes, but Cafu is perhaps the greatest ever player who chewed gum and played football at the same time.

Very good point. I tried to chew gum while playing last year, got knocked over and the gum got stuck in my tonsils and i had to get it removed by the doctor:o . I haven't been allowed to play since.

that's a good decision. I have no idea how he sprints back and forth down the sideline and chews gum. Amazing.

Hence why no one takes internet voting seriously! Hell Rory Fitzpatrick nearly got voted into the NHL All-Star game that way.
